Booking Chankanaab directly vs. booking with Island Marketing?

Hey folks,

Trying to make sure I'm not overlooking something here, because it looks too good to be true.

If I book directly with Chankanaab (http://www.**********************cozumel/chankanaab-national-park.asp), the price of admission is $21pp. That includes all the usual stuff: chairs, palapas, restaraunts near by, showers, restrooms, etc.

But if we book with Island Marketing (http://cozumelcruiseexcursions.com/CozumelShoreSnorkeling.htm), we're looking at $37 and that includes the admission fee to Chankanaab, snorkel equipment, AND an open bar?

I mean I have to be missing something here, right? I'm basically paying a whopping $16 for alcohol and flippers? Like I said, it sounds too good to be true, so I wanted to check with y'all and see what you think.

I believe Island Marketing may be using Playa Uvas for their excursion. I would do the live chat to verify or others may know for certain.

The pictures at that link are definitely Uvas. The reef in front of Uvas is considered part of the Chankanaab reef and $37 is the Uvas rate with open bar. I did this a couple of years ago and thought it was worth it.

Ah, okay, thanks for the clarification y'all. When I read the Island Marketing description it mentioned Chankanaab reef, which I must've assumed was the same as Chankanaab Park. This makes a lot more sense now.

New question: since both locations are near the Chanknaab reef, the snorkeling should be pretty similar, right?

I've never snorkeled at Chankanaab park, but I would think so. According to google maps, they are about 1800 feet apart. On the Uvas guided tour, the guide sprinkles some kind of fish food as you travel along and we saw all kinds of different fish.

I think it's the best deal value-wise. For the $37 you are limited to certain beers (but I was fine with the choices) and mostly fruity type drinks (daiquiris and margaritas etc) - no martinis, long-island teas, scotch/bourbon.

Besides the guided snorkel tour, they let us keep the gear for our entire visit and I went back out by myself. Saw all kinds of stuff.

It's a great place to relax and the food was pretty good too.
