Crockett's Mom Posted August 11, 2005 #1 Posted August 11, 2005 Can anyone tell us what the New York Port is like? Procedures? Etc. Friends are sailing on Legend in September. They will be arriving by chartered bus. Any help will be appreciated!
papadave Posted August 11, 2005 #2 Posted August 11, 2005 New York's cruise port is, to say the least, not the most pleasant experience. There isn't much to do and there aren't many places to sit while you are waiting. Transportation can get very difficult if there is congestion.
Starz723 Posted August 11, 2005 #3 Posted August 11, 2005 Carnival now has rows of seats while you wait. Get there early and they call you row by row. they have improved their procedure dramatically. I just cruised with them 2 weeks ago on the Legend.
Crockett's Mom Posted August 12, 2005 Author #4 Posted August 12, 2005 Thanks for the info. I've never sailed from NY and have no idea what to tell her to expect from that location. What has been your experience with the porters at the NY terminal? My friend's T/A told them to be careful about the porters - she thought some were not legitimate and that they wouldn't get their luggage. Wants them to take their own bags to the ship. My experience was that you don't get near where they actually load the luggage and the only luggage I carried was my carry-on. Other stuff we turned over to the porters on the curb and didn't think too much about it again until we found it at our cabin door. I was more worried about it sitting out in the hallway onboard! I was surprised her T/A would tell them to do that. If she packs like my DH and I did, I wouldn't want to drag that stuff around until we could get into our cabin!
