A female staff would come in about every hour to check the temp on the steam and sauna. Sometimes she would announce herself and sometimes not. I was caught quite naked several times. That should not be allowed. They would NEVER allow a male attendant to walk into the ladies room. I completely agree. I'm not one to complain...but I'd be in the spa manager's face after the first temp check. Unacceptable! Was this a clever way to force guys to keep their shorts on? I'd be more than pissed!

Edhug55 Posted March 27 #1279 Share Posted March 27 Definitely no shorts here either. Has anyone been on HAL Noordam lately? There used to be a very cozy (tiny) sauna but I don’t see it in the database and it’s difficult to tell from the deck plans whether it’s still there. Going in October fingers crossed.

Yes, same class of ship as the Eurodam so the free single-sex sauna is located on the port side along the hallway to the spa toward the front of the ship. All Holland America ships have free saunas.
RD64 Posted March 27 #1281 Share Posted March 27 The sauna on the Noordam, NA class is definitely very snug. However, it is better than no sauna. I am eager to try the window version of the Koningsdam class - especially on an Alaska or South Pacific itinerary.

The sauna on Koningsdam is identical. 1

Would like to know the set up for sauna and steam room on the Majestic My gut tells me it is coed. Not looking forward to wearing A swim suite in the sauna...more interested in single sex sauna, condusive to good one on one male conversation. Any information or suggestions on the Majestic sauna/stream room would be most appreciated Thank you. I just returned from the March 19 Majestic Mexican Riviera. There is no steam/sauna except in The Enclave and that is coed. Disappointed in that. The ship is quite nice but I won't be sailing on her again. I do prefer that single-sex sauna/steam

Hope it has a little more activity than last time Just got off a 10 day on the Eurodam and while it is just the small sauna, it was totally dead, never saw a single person. And unless the stewards were being extra vigilant, I only ever saw one or two missing towels from the stack. The temp was set at 79, so it was quite nice - we did have a few very hot days, which may have contributed. Plus the ship was only at about 38% capacity. Have a 16-day Hawaii cruise booked for October on the Kongingsdam, so very much looking forward to checking out the described sauna set up. twodjs Posted March 30 #1288 Share Posted March 30 Not a lot of fun when you're by yourself! Hope the word spreads - the Koningsdam will be great on those sea days to and from Hawai'i! Jumping on the Eurodam in Alaska in September. Help get the word out - FREE single-sex saunas on all Holland America ships.

Was on Nieuw Statendam in Feb, it had 900 passengers and met only 3 other individuals. Think on our 21 day crossing there are about 1700 and with 6 days at sea I hope It will be more utilized. Did Alaska in Sept 2017 was one of the last ships of the season. It was not too cold and had some very clear days to view the glaciers. Also no bugs !! There was a fair bit of rain but sporadic. twodjs Posted March 31 #1292 Share Posted March 31 Weather can be iffy in September. We were there twice last year - once in August and once in September. Be prepared for cold and rain and bring clothes you can layer. Probably in the 50s but in the 40s near the glaciers. But it can surprise you and be nice. Alaska is stunningly beautiful! We live close to Seatle, so it's just a couple of hour drive to the cruise port there.

I patronize the Hydrotherapy Pool and Thermal Suite and it has been my experience that the Stewards are very vigilant in keeping the towels supplied there. I imagine that the same personnel are also supposed to keep an eye on the free sauna as well.
twodjs Posted March 31 #1294 Share Posted March 31 That lack of knowledge of the free saunas on Holland America ships comes from their promotion of ONLY the fee based Thermal Suite packages. We all learn by word of mouth and CruiseCritic. Because the lockers are located away from the saunas, I'll often use the changing room/showers and mention in conversation about the available saunas. By the end of the cruise, several new faces. The reaction always is "Damn, wish I'd known 5 days ago...". 1
MCOguy Posted April 3 #1295 Share Posted April 3 Are the sauna experiences better/friendlier guys on RCL or Carnival? I know the cruise experience between the 2 is vastly different but I only have a few days to take a cruise and those are my only two options. I'm glad to hear that RCL has reopened their areas. The Mariner is my only RCL option.

twodjs Posted April 4 #1298 Share Posted April 4 Iramack, checking some of your other posts, looks like you're on Ovation in July. I just finished a Panama Canal cruise on Ovation in February. Love Seabourn! They have a small to medium sized sauna in the locker area and a couple of nice showers as well. Enjoy that cruise too! See you in November. iramack Posted April 4 #1299 Share Posted April 4 Yes Howard I am sailing on Seabourn in July. I have been on the smaller ones (1 time each) and enjoyed the facilities on those as well. It's one of the main reasons I cruise. I just really enjoy my "Spa Time" Steve
