Buying salmon in Alaska

I'm headed for my first cruise next week and am very excited! (Coral Princess southbound)

 

Is there one town (or store) that has better seafood offerings than others? Is it worth buying and bringing home?

I always bring home salmon. :) I like Taku Smokery in Juneau and Ketchikan has a lot of availability of vendors- some excellent seasonings, try the samples.

Is there any resteraunt that serves sockeye salmon? Ports visited would be Skagway, Ketchikan and Juneau.

You could call Twisted Fish and the Hanger in Juneau and inquire what kind of salmon?

You can also buy fresh salmon in anchorage at the fish stores...they will pack it and ship it frozen to your home....10th and M is a good fish merchant. Smoked fish is found everywhere....sample it first because everyone has a better take on what is best....but it is very very easy to find..
