pamday Posted September 16, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2014 We are taking our 2 kids (10 and 7) snorkeling for the first time. Which beach is the best for snorkeling with kids?
blue_water Posted September 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2014 Of the two I'd recommend Sapphire, and it's also 1.5 - 2 hrs closer and about $50 cheaper than going to STJ. But Coki would also be a good choice for the kids to snorkel too, especially the first time.
2PinaColadas Posted September 16, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 16, 2014 I would agree with Sapphire. It has better snorkeling and is simply gorgeous.
merinski Posted September 19, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2014 Saphire is a beautiful beach! The snorkeling was fine, but I would think it would be better at Cinnamon, but I have't been to Cinnamon yet. Anyone else been to both???
Ms411 Posted September 19, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 19, 2014 It depends on when you come. Sapphire and Cinnamon can be rougher than Coki which is more protected. Lots of kids at Coki enjoying the fish. If you're concerned about crowds, you have options to do other things at Coki if it gets crowded on the shore. Banana boats. Jet skis. Paddleboards. Etc. m and m's Posted November 5, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 5, 2014 When we were at Sapphire it was too rough to snorkel. We didn't see anything, and got very tired trying. It was a beautiful beach, we had a fun day, but the water wasn't warm either.

For a more protected bay I'd suggest Secret Harbor which also offers snorkeling. Water temps will be similar at these beaches, just depends on the time of year. cpa cruiser Posted November 7, 2014 #9 Share Posted November 7, 2014 Cinnamon has better snorkeling, but it's a bit of a swim to get to the small island. Might be tough for kids, plus more costly since you need to take a ferry to St John.
blue_water Posted November 8, 2014 #10 Share Posted November 8, 2014 For off the beach snorkeling Coki is very popular for families with young kids as is SH. For snorkeling on a day sail the cays off STJ offer excellent opportunities but in deeper water often with swift currents.
