It's actually 10/9/14. I will be boarding Conquest this Sunday so i'll report back on the 19th when I get home since this will be the first Conquest sailing where the new rule applies and yes, I am a smoker and I will follow the new rule..

This is from John Heald's FB page:

We will start with the Conquest class and here

The following areas are considered as Smoking Areas

Casino - Restrictive Policy - Designated areas as advised only when gaming

Casino Bar

Jazz Lounge

Nightclub

Open Decks - Deck 3, 10 and 11 Starboard Side

Cigar / Pipe Smoking

Jazz Lounge and Open Decks - Deck 3, 10 and 11 Starboard Side

E-Cigarette Smoking / Vaping - Limited to designated smoking areas only.

Now what you need to know is that new sofas,, chairs and tables will arrive on this class of ships for the outside decks and I will have photos tomorrow or the day after for you as they arrived just this past weekend and are being put in place on the Conquest, Glory, Valor, Liberty, Freedom, Splendor, Triumph, Victory and Sunshine.

Also, he posted pictures on his FB page today of all of the new furniture in one of the outdoor smoking areas. Really nice looking.

That smoking area looks lovely. A lot better than the corners they have now. I am not a smoker and am happy about the new rule but I do sympathize with you all that will have to leave your cabin to smoke. I am glad that they are making the area nice and what looks like it would be enjoyable.

I want to be mature about this... I always buy balcony because I smoke and I want my freedom to be by myself sometimes. We smokers can't fight the change... We can get a cheaper room... Carnival says 10% buy balcony to enjoy this privilege ... Hopefully the rules will change when the money becomes an issue... Its all about the money... Pushing us to the casino... Pushing us to the bar... They have spent thousands of dollars trying to figure out how to sell us one more thing by pushing us in there... Where are we going to go if its raining... They set up open air smoking... The balconies protected us from the rain and wind... You got to be playing the games to enjoy a smoke in the casino... I don't gamble that much... I don't drink or do the dance clubs... I'm being pushed into places I don't want to go... I guess I have to follow the rules or not cruise anymore... Or maybe quit smoking... Its ok to get drunk at the bar or at the pool... Hmmmm, its all about the money... Oh well, I love cruising... And so it goes...

Understandable. I feel the same way. My daughter and I cancelled a balcony cabin we had booked prior to the announcement and received a full refund. Then cooled our indignation and rebooked, two decks down for $600 less. Am happy to see the great smoking areas. I smoke ecigs, so was so hoping they would change their minds and at least allow those on balconies. Nevertheless, still booked a balcony cabin. Have to accept what we can't change. If I cruise again, it will be with Holland America who still allows smoking on balconies, but for how long? This is a trend that is just going to get more extreme with time. It is either deal with it or quit smoking. At 70 years old, smoking since I was 13, that is not going to happen. Still, makes me feel like a criminal.
