Welcome to Cruise Critic!

The better place for your question would be the part of Cruise Critic dedicated to Carnival, here:

I am not sure why Carnival would "need" that cabin, unless it was a handicap accessible cabin, if you already have it booked.

If Carnival "needs" a cabin, I would think they will ask you to move, but I wouldn't be expecting some huge upgrade. A similar cabin nearby would be sufficient. They won't charge you any extra. They may give you some OBC as a friendly gesture.

If I booked a cabin that is popular and Carnival needs it to book another party, will they offer me a cabin upgrade at their expense ?

Yes, but why would they need this specific cabin? I've not heard of anyone being upgraded from this type of cabin as there are only a few on the ship and they sell out fast. On the very rare occasion they need a cabin, it is usually people on insides that get bumped to balconies.

If you booked it on purpose to try to get moved to a suite, you have made a mistake.
