Majesty 3 Day Tidbits

I'm not going to do another full review of Majesty since I did one in August, but for those that enjoy her, here are a few tidbits from my cruise this past weekend.

First, "Brasserie 30" lunch in the MDR with the salad bar is no longer being offered. It was a great alternative to the Cococay BBQ and Windjammer - but no more. I spoke to one of the head waiters I have gotten to know on my last few cruises, and he said there were simply too few people doing it. They had it staffed and provisioned every week and hardly anyone ever came. That's too bad.

Chef's Table got rave reviews. I don't do Chef's Table because I always think it's about the wine pairings, and I don't drink wine. Well two of my new cruise buddies (see below) did it this trip and raved. And if someone does not drink wine, they will get you a cocktail instead. They start you out in Boleros with champagne, and then take you to the private dining room. The chef explains every course and although there's no "choice" they enjoyed all the selections. I now might try this sometime. (Always offered night 2 on the 3 day cruises (formal night) and Taste of Tuscany is offered nights 1 and 2).

The Diamond event continues to be one of my favorite parts of the day. I sailed solo this trip but met some really wonderful fellow cruisers this trip. Ruth, the LA, runs it right and they always have had great wait staff working the room. And at the "Welcome Back" event I received my first crystal block from Captain Aris. Another nice touch that sets Majesty apart.

Nassau - I usually stay on ship, but I was feeling restless and decided to go to Atlantis and do the "The Dig" aquarium tour as I never had done it. I did not do it through the ship. I just grabbed a taxi and bought the ticket from Atlantis. It's $39 as part of the minimum package they offer (just the aquarium, a few of the lagoons including the famous predator tunnel). You can also do it as part of the beach day or as part of the aqua venture. It is a truly beautiful display, but probably only worth it as part of the more extensive packages like the aqua venture. I would not recommend it as a stand alone. FYI, they no longer let you into the lobby of the main hotel. Taxis drop cruise pax off at Coral Towers, then you go through the shopping and casino, but that's it. Only those with room cards and wristbands from a package (like I had) get you past the casino.

MDR menus - the order is (and yes, Cruiseboy305, I stand corrected) Pomodoro, Saffron and Pimiento. I've come to like the Lamb Shank from Pomodoro, still order the extra cost filet mignon on Saffron, and could have the strawberry bisque off Pimiento every day. My table mates were actually quite pleased with the no cost "filet of beef" option on the Saffron menu.

Night 2 deck party - it seems to get more popular every time I am on Majesty. This trip it reportedly went until after 4:30am. I left at 2:30 - and it was not just the younguns out there. It is a fun party. So be wary of deck 10 cabins under the forward pool bar area. I hear there were some noise complaints.

Grumpy guy - so at the Diamond event the first night, a very unhappy older gentleman wanted to bring his non-Diamond friend into the event. That's not supposed to happen, but the waiter was trying to be accommodating and so he said that would be fine, but that he could not offer the guest free drinks. If the guest did not have a package, he would have to charge him. The waiter was extremely friendly and was trying to make it work. The grumpy guy started berating him and called the waiter a jerk in a loud voice. To his credit, the waiter kept smiling and was polite and explained the policy. The guy and his friend eventually left in a huff. It just always makes me think of the people who write about experiences on board and being mistreated, and I wonder if it's someone like grumpy guy, who was the actual jerk in the situation. :)

Oh, and before I forget - no additional speculation on when MJ is leaving the fleet. But still no one seriously thinks it will be April 2016.

Thanks for the review Matt...

Will we be able to hit the Diamond event as full suite guests?

We are SO looking forward to this, we are not big ship folks and think Vision Class ships are just about the right size.

Just never got around to Sovereign Class, and we have lived in Broward since 1980!!!

I remember getting off the Britannis in the late 80's and seeing Sovereign there, it was like "HOLY S%$T" look at the size of that!

Hi Mike - surprisingly the answer to your question is "no." I always thought that would be a given since there's no CL on Majesty. But I asked Ruth this very question and she said no. It was only for Diamond and up. Of course, the Welcome Back event on night two is open to all the C&A tiers above Gold and is in the same place and has the hors d'oeuvres and free drinks.

And yes, the Captain always makes mention of the fact that Sovereign class were once the largest cruise ships in the world. They must have been quite a sight in that era.

Oh forgot one thing.

We had at least half a dozen groups on board - all celebrating various birthdays, etc.

Many of them had organized door signs and decorations and it was reported that the ship made them take them down - that door signs are a fire hazard. And have to admit I don't remember seeing any this past weekend. I don't know if this is just on the Majesty or if Royal is implementing a new policy about door decorations.

May I ask how many days for the crystal block? On Ex recently the LA said it was 210 for the first block but I thought it was 140. Just wondering if there have been changes, Thanks.

Still 140 points for the first block.

Yes, for sure 140. Then every 70 points thereafter.

And you can get it on the cruise where you will hit 140. You don't have to wait until afterwards. But you need to keep track and you need to make sure the LA knows you are due for one. It's not always automatic. There was a couple on my cruise that was shocked when I got one because they have 230 points and never even knew about it. Ruth was really sweet and is going to have the Capt present one to them this week (they are doing B2B).

Thanks for the review, my DH & I will be on Majesty next month, we are doing a 4 night cruise. Is there only 1 formal night on a 4 night cruise? What is the deck party that you mentioned in your review? Thanks:)

Mike, try to check in with Ruth right after muster and be sure.... :)

Bronx12, I have only ever done a 3 night on Majesty, so not sure of the 4 day plans. On the 3 day the deck party is always night 2 after formal night, starting around 11:30 and going into the wee hours. It's on the pool deck. They usually start with the crew leading line dancing to get everyone in the mood, and then it goes to just dancing. Good DJ with an array of music. I would think they offer it on the 4 night cruise as well.

On a 4 night cruise you will still only have one formal night, and it will be night 2.

Have fun!
