Tyron Posted August 19, 2005 Author #8 Share Posted August 19, 2005 I know I am going to get it for this but she doesn't look THAT big. i was thinking the same thing....i think the most noticeable difference will be the width of the ship....being 184 feet wide. :D hey emmy!!! :D
Rstamper Posted August 19, 2005 #9 Share Posted August 19, 2005 Thanks for the picture link. I can see where the hot tubs are that go out from the side of the ship. I can't wait to try them out. Rstamper

Iamthesea Posted August 19, 2005 #13 Share Posted August 19, 2005 I know I am going to get it for this but she doesn't look THAT big. I was thinking the same thing. I think it must be the angle of the photo. If you look where the hot tub sticks out, it doesn't look as wide as the photo of that area that is posted on RCCL. Giventofly Posted August 19, 2005 #14 Share Posted August 19, 2005 OMG....that video was soooooo cool. I was surfing GOOGLE EARTH program, and I found a cool high res pic of Kværner Masa-Yards from space. That would be the Costa Mediterranea just prior to completion in 2003. jerzygrl Posted August 19, 2005 #21 Share Posted August 19, 2005 Thanks for sharing. I was thinking the same thing about the size. I have never been near a cruise ship, yet alone one this big and I thought it didn't look that big. Then I figured maybe camera angle. If maybe there was some people on the ground working on it ;) then we could get another view as to how big she is compared to a person. Thanks again for sharing and hope to see some footage of the float from today. Kim
mcfaddensfarm Posted August 19, 2005 #22 Share Posted August 19, 2005 To get a good idea of perspective, scroll over to the very bottom right corner of the picture. Directly in front of the cruise ship is a wheeled contraption (don't know the technical name of it) the we've probably all seen used before at either construction sites or in large home improvement stores. Workers stand on this and I think it stretches up so they can get to stuff that is up high. Picture someone standing on that, then compare it to the rest of the ship. Also, I figure that someone my height (5'5") standing underneath the ship probably just reaches the top of my head to the very underside of the ship that is being held up on blocks.

Cruising89143 Posted August 19, 2005 #24 Share Posted August 19, 2005 i was thinking the same thing....i think the most noticeable difference will be the width of the ship....being 184 feet wide. :D hey emmy!!! :D Actually Aker yards has in their latest press release that the Freedom will be 38.6 meters wide and that is the same width as the Mariner OTS according to Aker's site. http://www.akerfinnyards.com/press.cfm?ID=244 Basically the Freedom is nothing more than a stretched version of the Voyager class ship. The Freedom is the same height but just longer and not that much longer in fact. 92 feet longer and 27 feet wider according to RCI''s site which probably comes from the overhang of those hot tubs that will be on the side of the ship. I think that a lot of people are thinking that this ship is going to be some huge ship and much larger than the Voyager class when in reality she will not be all that much larger. Jimbo Posted August 19, 2005 #25 Share Posted August 19, 2005 What is amazing to me is just how little ship is underneathe me.........Scary when you think of it, possibly hitting 40- 60 ft waves. Jimbo:)
