D 20 is our usual muster station. Love it we always pick the same cabin 1638 and D2 is the station.

D20's life boat looks like this now:

Captain Rick announced that there is passenger lifeboat space for 3,700 and there are 3,030 on board, so in case of emergency, we will be reapportioned to other lifeboats!

Who remembers my experience on the Crown Princess in 2006? There are indeed those who believe that I am the proverbial jinx, when it comes to damaged cruise ships! ;)

Greetings from the broken but beautiful Explorer of the Seas.

Last night was quite a ride.

I only heard (and saw) that it was ONE lifeboat, but no need to quibble about that!

The wave that broke through the Deck 4 sliding doors inundated the entire aft Deck 4, the Aquarium bar on both sides, into the dining room lobby, then flooding down the stairs. No reports of water going INTO any cabins, but the stairs and the hallways have been drying all day with those huge fans/dryers that you see sometimes in the halls. The aft elevators are back in operation, after the electricians carefully checked them out and declared them safe to use.

All outside decks are locked for our safety. The ship is still rolling, but not as bad as last night.

I was actually thrown from my bed TWICE, and I am midship! Ruth, who was thrilled to move to a corner aft this cruise, had even more motion, although nothing broke in either of our cabins.

The noise has been incredible. So much creaking, moaning and cracking. And the cabins were loud, too! (rim shot! )

The ship is vewwy vewwy quiet this afternoon. Very subdued atmostphere, on the part of both passengers and crew.

I just posted above the pictures that I could take through the round window on Deck 5. This (port) side of Deck 4 is closed off by the fire door.

Sorry that I have been "missing in action", but after getting almost no sleep last night, then dragging myself to the (wonderful) Meet & Mingle at EIGHT THIRTY A.M., I returned to my cabin and SLEPT. (then read and watched some TV)

The ship is still rolling, but there have been no violent jerks or bangs.

Captain Rick is amazing. His morning announcement pulled no punches and gave all of the details. (most of which are contained in the paragraph above or my post above)

These are pictures taken from my balcony this morning:

These are from Ruth's corner aft balcony a little later in the morning. (I am so happy to see that what was battleship grey when I first sailed Explorer in 2002 is now navy blue + the RC Crown & Anchor on that flat deck)

As I said, they aren't letting us outside at all, so I could not go out on Deck 4, but here are a couple of artistic shots through the rain-dotted doors:

And of course, these are on exhibit everywhere:

:D

Carol,

Glad you and all the other passengers are safe. Hoping your cruise gets better soon.

I have heard of no injuries. I have chatted with a few crew members, and no one has mentioned anything except the lifeboat and the water.

I hear people talking, and some of the (absurdly few) wifi hotspots may not be working. People were complaining about not being able to see the games in the Weekend Warrior on the Royal Promenade.

Well Carol you have lived up to your reputation! :D :D Certainly a huge incident currently on board now.

I am glad however that nothing happened while we sailed together on the Crown Princess a few weeks ago.

LOL....tossed out of bed!! We've had rough seas but never enough to be tossed out of bed!

Hope things calm down!

Glad everyone is safe!

Your in good hands with Captain Rick....he got us through hurricane Frances 10 years ago with no issues.

Have fun Carol! I'm leaving next week - we may be 2 ships passing in the night :p

I see you are on Adventure in Feb. 23 We are doing Indy again on Feb 28. I believe we have had this same scenario in the past!

EDIT: whoops! I read the dates wrong on your time table. I guess you are not sailing this coming February.

Oh great. Bringing a broken ship to Florida. THANKS...That's all I have to say :D

My pleasure. ;)

On another note.........

Point to Royal Caribbean.

At least the scheduled movie for tonight is not TITANIC, which it WAS on the day of the Crown Princess list!!!!!!

I remember it well and I was going to post that the inside of a ship getting a bit beaten up is nothing new for you!;)
