Hotel in NYC

We'll be sailing on the Norwegian Dream out of NYC on 6th April. As we've never visited NYC before we are flying into JFK on the evening of 4th April so that we have one full day for sight-seeing.

Don't know why, but we're having problems finding decently priced hotels with rooms available - perhaps we're trying to book too far ahead?? One option we HAVE found is through Hotwire. It appears to be the Sheraton Manhattan at $98 per night. The next cheapest hotel we've been able to find is about $150 per night. Would you recommend staying at this Sheraton - especially at this price?

Thanks for your help :)

Both of the Sheridan Hotels are located on 7th Avenue across the street from each other (around 52/53rd St.) This is an excellent Midtown location though both of these hotels are a bit shop-worn. If you're not familiar with NYC hotels, they have much smaller rooms than most larger city hotels as this is prime real estate. For one night i think you'll be fine at either of the Sheridans. You may want to consider the Greyline hop on and off bus (it's bright red) to get a good one day overview of the city. If possible, it would be better if you could spend several days before your cruise as one day will just barely let you scratch the surface. Another good hotel for tourists would be the Renaissance (also on 7th Ave. around 48th St. in the heart of Times Square). If you want to be near Central Park then I'd recommend the Essex House (also a Starwood property). If you want to be on the East Side the Holiday Inn Express would be a good value and good location.

Thanks for your advice, newyorkgolfer41. We will be staying 2 nights in New York which will give us one FULL day and the morning prior to our cruise to sightsee. The high cost of hotels and the shortage of vacation days prohibits a longer stay but, you never know, we might manage to visit again!!

Thanks for the tip on the hop on and off bus - these sort of tours are usually a great way to easily see all the best places in a short space of time.

Friends stayed in the Renaissance around Easter this year but there seems to be no availability for next year. Is there something on in NYC on 4th - 6th April or have the hotels still to release next year's rooms? I've found several hotels which claim to have no availability.

I'll check out your other hotel suggestions.

Thanks again.

Have you looked at http://www.biddingfortravel.com to see what others are getting through priceline.com? It may be too early for rooms to have been released on priceline.com for April. You will likely want to make a secure reservation that can be cancelled in the event you get lucky with priceline as your time gets closer. We've gotten good deals on priceline the past 2 times we've been in NYC (Midtown).
