jaxfl Posted November 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2014 OK I need a reality check. We have (me & Wife) a Sensation balcony cabin on the upper aft deck. I just saw some videos and realized that there is only a “Hard Backed CHAIR” in the room to set on or the bed, and a very small sink. This is correct, right? A few months ago on the Dream in the balcony cabin there was a “Nice Soft COUCH” a full wall sink area, and a table, what happened? So then I look at the Sensation Jr Suite videos and the cabin seems to be like the “DREAM Balcony” it has a “Nice Soft COUCH” a full wall sink area, and a table. I have FTTF so boarding should be fast, this is only a 3 day cruise to Nassau, and the balcony cabin is in a good location ……. Should I for about $140 more total after giving up the FTTF, get a Jr Suite obstructed view or stay where we are now and live with the “Hard Backed CHAIR” and/or just set on the balcony for the 3 days? I know personal preference but what would you do if you spend 50% of your time in the cabin/balcony area?
champagne123 Posted November 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2014 3 Day Cruise??? How much time do you plan on staying in your cabin? With the exception of sleeping and showering, I would be OUT AND ABOUT to do everything I could possibly do in three days. JMO. :)
keepap Posted November 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 12, 2014 I agree with champagne123.... I think if it's a 3 day cruise the cabin you have if it's in a good location would do just fine for me, however I'm hardly in my cabin except for sleep and shower/change clothes. Been on a few cruises and don't want to get home needing a vcaction....

Been on a few cruises and don't want to get home needing a vcaction.... We spend a lot of time in our cabin, so I get where you're coming from. Well, my traveling companions more than myself. I prefer to avail myself of the Serenity area, especially when the ship's in port and it's empty. But for three days, I think you'll find the balcony is ample for relaxing. If you find that's not the case, Sensation does have a nice Serenity area now with ample comfy chairs. It's not as big as some, of course, but I like the location of the Serenity decks on the Fantasy class.

jcearth Posted November 12, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 12, 2014 From what I understand, the balconies on the Junior Suites on Fantasy class ships are notoriously small (think 20 sq ft or so as opposed to 35sq ft for the regular balcony room), so you may want to take that into consideration. Cruise Envy Posted November 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted November 12, 2014 The fantasy class balconies also have 0 privacy.
KevInPitt Posted November 12, 2014 #9 Share Posted November 12, 2014 Are you aware the Sensation and the Dream are in two completely different ship classes? Are you aware the Sensation is 21 years old while the Dream is only 2? To me, those two things comprise the fundamental reality check.
AnnaNimitee Posted November 12, 2014 #10 Share Posted November 12, 2014 I could think of a lot better ways to spend $140 in three days. 'Course, I'd probably ditch the FTTF, too, bein's it's Canaveral and there's no tendering anywhere, but that's coming from someone with a guarantee cabin way down in steerage for our upcoming 3 day on Sensation. :D

beshears Posted November 12, 2014 #12 Share Posted November 12, 2014 I'm not going to say one way or another about this balcony situation, as we had an inner room with "two" port holes, which was very nice. We had never been on the Sensation before (I have always done longer cruises, and my friend had never cruised), and yes it is an older ship, but to me, they had plenty to do, IF you wanted to, or just relax. We are not nit/picky people, so other than the smoke being bad around the casino, the ship was fine with us. We liked the Motown music, but it was being done right in front of the casino, so that made it bad to listen while all that smoke was around us. near the beach Posted November 13, 2014 #13 Share Posted November 13, 2014 (edited) The aft balcony cabins on the Sensation are the same as regular balcony cabins with 185 sq ft cabin and a 35 sq ft balcony. This is the same as a regular balcony cabin on the Dream. Sensation Jr suites have a smaller balcony than the regular balcony cabins. If you would like a bigger balcony you would need to book a grand suite, Actually the Dream is five years old now. Rare Tapi Posted November 13, 2014 #14 Share Posted November 13, 2014 On a 3 day cruise on the Sensation? IMHO any extra dollar spent is wasted money. For me, cheaper is the way to go on this itinerary and ship. I'd save my money and put it towards another cruise. jaxfl Posted November 13, 2014 Author #15 Share Posted November 13, 2014 Thanks for the comments... so far it is a majority that I should stay in the regular balcony cabin and use the money for other things. Thanks again. I guess I will wait for the upgrade call and if they can move me to a "Grand Suite" for less money, then I might take it otherwise I will keep the Upper Deck Balcony. KevInPitt Posted November 13, 2014 #16 Share Posted November 13, 2014 Actually the Dream is five years old now. That is indeed correct. My apologies - I confused the launch of the Dream (2008) with the launch of the Breeze (2012).

cruizinisthebest Posted November 13, 2014 #19 Share Posted November 13, 2014 Keep the regular balcony and enjoy it. You already know the Sensation is smaller. It's a nice ship for its class size. Enjoy your trip.
camper49 Posted November 13, 2014 #20 Share Posted November 13, 2014 We were on Sensation in Feb. for four days. We we going to get a balcony but at the time for just a few more $$$$ we got an OB Jr. Suite. Well worth it to us. The balcony is small but it was fine! Cabin very nice . I have a few pics I could e-mail to you if want.
jaxfl Posted November 13, 2014 Author #21 Share Posted November 13, 2014 (edited) camper49, I saw a youtube of the OB jr Suites from 2013 that some folks shot of the Sensation, that is why I said that the "regular balcony" on the Dream and the "Jr Suite" on the Sensation are about the same thing. I know the Dream is bigger been on it (2013) and the Fasination (2012) out of Jacksonville but I thought I remembered the Fasination had a sofa in the balcony cabin and the Sensation does not. Anyway for 3 days I guess I can suffer in a balcony. Edited November 13, 2014 by jaxfl
Rare mawvkysc Posted December 26, 2014 #22 Share Posted December 26, 2014 The Fantasy Class jr. suites balconies do not have much privacy. Many have mentioned that they felt like they were on display.
