AussieOmni Posted December 16, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 16, 2014 Donning my flame suit because I know how things go but I swear I've searched. The wording for what Carnival includes is kind of vague and I was wondering if anyone could clarify, are you allowed to use Cruise Cash toward the required gratuities? n6uqqq Posted December 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) Cruise Cash provides an immediate credit to a guest's Sail & Sign account. This credit is good for any charge made to their account including taxes and gratuity charges. Cruise Cash is valid for a single voyage and cannot be transferred to future bookings. Cruise Cash is non-refundable and any unused credits will be forfeited. There is your answer directly from Carnival's website. AussieOmni Posted December 16, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted December 16, 2014 Yep I read that on Carnival's website too, what I'm not clear on is if that gratuity is overall or only on things that you purchase.
n6uqqq Posted December 16, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 16, 2014 I would interpret that as a yes because it says "any charge" and gratuities are a charge against your account. I would recommend a gift card over cruise cash because there is no chance of losing any unused money. Even better is the verizon gift card if you use Verizon you can get 10 percent off. MarkAndSandy Posted December 16, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 16, 2014 Gratuities are charged to your sail and sign card... Just like any other "purchase" on the ship, ergo, cruise cash will offset that or any other "purchase" on the ship.

I agree with you. But on my last cruise I took CC advice and purchased gift cards. long story short Carnival has over $1000 of my money tied into gift cards. With no chance of getting any (cash back) If I had cruise cash I could have cashed out the last day. Quick note on cruise cash. The use it or lose it part only kicks in after sailing. If you cancel before your sailing it's completely refunded.

In my case I would never buy cruise cash because there is no plus for me. Giving Carnival x dollars to get x dollars back later on makes no sense. I wonder if you could cash it out in the casino like others have done with cruise cash? Edited December 17, 2014 by n6uqqq
AussieOmni Posted December 17, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted December 17, 2014 Well our cruise is six days so for two people it's almost $150 so I doubt we'd lose any anyway. Interesting to hear that you can cash-out at the Casino as a way of kind of 'cheating' the use it or lose it thing.

Then later go to the casino and transfer $1000 from your S&S, play a couple rounds, then cash out. Though I think it would take a couple transfers, they don't let you take that much at once. But, it could easily be done over a few days. But maybe that's the 'long story short' why you didn't do that! :) Just suggesting for someone else though - it's quite easy to get cash from the casino. rferr Posted December 17, 2014 #10 Share Posted December 17, 2014 I bought a 500 dollar gift card for 450. I will apply it to my account and after gratuities and a few drinks I will still have a balance at the end but not much.
