KirkCrew Posted August 24, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 24, 2005 Just curious - can someone tell me which side of the ship is better if you have a balcony for when you are in the various ports? Port or Starboard? Any ideas?
budaman Posted August 24, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 24, 2005 If you're doing the KW,GC & Coz route, the only Port it would make much difference would probably be Key West. The Starboard side will face the town there. GC & Coz you'll just have different views of each island. Thinking about it more, in Cozumel, we turned around at the pier so on the Port side all you would probably see, was the side of the Mariner if the schedule and docking arrangements are the same. The Starboard side had a view back toward town. Pictures in link below show views from Starboard on Deck 8 & Deck 3. sanantoniored Posted August 24, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 24, 2005 We like starboard-love to watch the late drunken passengers run for the ship in Key West before we depart. You view the port actys in Galveston.
vickiw0318 Posted August 24, 2005 #4 Share Posted August 24, 2005 We were port side in 2/04 - will be starboard this October. We had out drapes open and really enjoyed the lights from all the oil rigs on our last night out. Kinda like passing mini-cities. We did just have a view of the Mariner in Cozumel. Was fun trying to figure out what the rooms were like and waving to the other passengers. I do think it will be fun to have "city" views this go round. dderm Posted August 25, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 25, 2005 We stayed on the Starboard side last November and the Port side in January. Both give you great views but we liked the starboard side just a bit better. In Key West we faced the Gulf and had our own Sunset party with absolutely wonderful views. In Cozumel it's a toss-up - sometimes you back in so you never know what side is facing the dock. We went to Costa Maya both times (the port side faced the land) so I can't advise you about Grand Cayman. Just stay away from Suite 8016 - the furnishings are definitely frayed around the edges (it's the one with the huge dent in the door).
SeaDays Posted August 25, 2005 #7 Share Posted August 25, 2005 We were on the Rhapsody last week. The current captain prefers to back into the pier in Cozumel. In this case the Mariner will block the view from port side balconies, although you could carry on a conversation with your Mariner neighbors. So I suggest choosing starboard. wrp96 Posted August 26, 2005 #8 Share Posted August 26, 2005 Thanks, I was considering a cruise on Rhapsody in December and was wondering which side to book.
sanantoniored Posted August 26, 2005 #9 Share Posted August 26, 2005 You need to know that what happens on one cruise-such as backing in or having the starboard face the pier-can easily change based on the recommendation of the pilot or the desires of the captain. You can plan all you want, but until the actual docking, you can never be 100% certain. Either way, you are on the Rhapsody, so you can't really go wrong! scarletdove1969 Posted August 27, 2005 #10 Share Posted August 27, 2005 In all honety a balcony in the front or in the rear are the best ones. Everyone thinks mid-ship and port are however IMO aft and forward are
wrp96 Posted August 27, 2005 #11 Share Posted August 27, 2005 Well, I would rather have an aft as well, but none are left at the moment.
