LBL Posted August 31, 2005 #53 Share Posted August 31, 2005 This thread is "sailing" along wonderfully. Cudos Suzy for writing a letter that was "heard" and allowing us all to participate in this with our dreams. My personal choice would be to have more Sun/Regal ships. As for where, I think a 14 day r/t from SF with stops in some other California ports such as Monterey to Mexico would also be good. I have looked at some '06 Europe cruises and they do look interesting and a bit different but too port intensive - you would get home more tired then when you left. I would also like to see some South American cruises that don't go all the way around the horn, but are confined to a couple countries with more ports in each country. mikend33 Posted August 31, 2005 #54 Share Posted August 31, 2005 I think that on the 7 day Caribbean cruises they should go to more than three islands. These islands are pretty close together on the eastern caribbean cruises so why not a fourth island? Also I agree with the idea of 10-14 day cruises out of fll with a grand class ship. DesrtDrmr Posted August 31, 2005 #55 Share Posted August 31, 2005 We love sea days too, and second all the votes for longer west coast sailings. BUT, we once did an end of the season FOUR DAY trip on the Star (the cruise before SuzyCruisy's wedding), that sailed from Seattle to Ketchikan, to Vancouver. It was a great cruise, but would love to see it expanded to include Victoria...........maybe a five day round trip out of Seattle. I also second the motion of using a ship other than the Sun for the longer Caribbean cruise. I would love to try some different ships, but don't want to continue doing 7 day East or West Carib. cruises. Have done Panama Canal, and Southern on RCI and would love to see some different island combinations on 10 day Caribbean cruises.
jsea Posted August 31, 2005 #56 Share Posted August 31, 2005 For me it's the exotic cruises which are important. Quite honestly how many times can you go to Alaska or Mexico? The Caribbean holds no fascination for me. I'd like to see more cruises in the Indian Ocean and going to Africa. We were going to be on one of the cancelled Pacific Princess cruises in 2007. There's still no adequate replacement for them. How long has it been since Princess has gone to Egypt? I agree completely. Golden will be making one voyage which includes Egypt next year (November). I wish they would offer more throughout the season, with an overnight call at Alexandria. There is so much to see in Cairo and its environs that I don't think one short day is enough, especially with the drive from Alexandria. Maybe the ship could spend a couple days in Alexandria and then on to Port Said, enabling passengers to do overland/overnight excursions to Luxor. Obviously spending three port days in Egypt is not something for the average itinerary, so keep that to one cruise a season, but, at least feature Alexandria for a day on many more cruises than just one. Some roundtrip sailings ex-Athens or Istanbul would be good. Tunisia, Egypt, Turkey, Greece the Black Sea, etc. (HAL is doing this to some extent). Also, I'd like to say I am very pleased with Princess deploying a ship in Asia for the summer months, and also for deploying a new Grand Class vessel to exotic locales during the other times of the year. However, I'd also like to see more Indian Ocean and Africa sailings (think summer). July and August are really great times to visit the game reserves in Kenya. Fantasizing, of course... smkerry Posted August 31, 2005 #58 Share Posted August 31, 2005 For at least one or two sailings, how about a r/t from Lisbon, Portugal to Ponta Delgada - Azores, Funchal - Madeira , Tenerife & Las Palmas - Canary Islands and maybe Casablanca and Gibraltar. That would make a great 10 day itinerary, IMHO. A cruise to the Azores would hook me for sure.

KarenC Posted August 31, 2005 #61 Share Posted August 31, 2005 I wanted to do the Greek Isles cruise a year ago and it was sold out. I'd like to see Princess offer it more often because the dates didn't work for me this year. I'd also like to see them make it at least two days longer and build in a couple of sea days to allow a little rest and recovery time. And there should be more than one day in some of the ports like Venice and Rome. They should have two full days in each the way they do in St. Petersburg. It's a very port intensive cruise and all the ports are places I'd want to take excursions, but I don't want to be riding in a bus on an excursion every day. A sea day every third or fourth day would be a big help. Some of the other European cruises present the same problems - a lot to see and not enough time to recover. Alaska cruises - I like the longer round trip from Seattle idea. I'd like to see Victoria and Sitka added as ports on the cruises which include Glacier Bay. If they had that, I'd be on one right now. Bring the Royal Princess back to Princess.
julieh Posted August 31, 2005 #62 Share Posted August 31, 2005 Would love Madeira in the European cruises. Also like to see Tobagao & St John added. Think the longer cruises are great. We are doing the 14 night Sea Princess in December but would also be interested in a longer one either 18 or 21 night in the caribbean. Longer Alaska cruise gets my vote also. Tristan Posted August 31, 2005 #63 Share Posted August 31, 2005 I would LOVE a cruise that sailed from New York and went to Aruba, St. Maarten, St. Kitts, St. Lucia and Barbados. We never get the exotic Southern Carribean ports leaving from and returnign to NY. I would book that in a heartbeat!! So would a lot of other people I know. Also, a cruise to Los Angeles and San Francisco....how cool is that?!!
ChattTenn Posted August 31, 2005 #64 Share Posted August 31, 2005 I would like to see Princess will build more Island/Coral class ships not the Grand class ships which only carry more passengers (too many) and using them for longer R/T Southern Caribbean, Mexico or Alaska from Seattle (easy to get air to and from here). Send smaller Sun class ships to Bermuda from Eastern ports. This is my own opion but Princess will need to reconsider the idea of Personal Choice Dining (Princess' choice and they made it my choice on several sailings I got stuck with it and hate it). psupa Posted August 31, 2005 #65 Share Posted August 31, 2005 I would like to see them do the 7-day Bermuda cruise with a smaller ship and wish Princess would offer bus transportation to the New York Pier (I'm willing to pay for the bus). Other cruise lines offer bus transportation from several east coast cities, but Princess is not one of them. So I've booked a a 7-day Bermuda cruise on the Horizon out of Philadelphia for October 15th.
OnTheRocks Posted August 31, 2005 #66 Share Posted August 31, 2005 Lots of good suggestions. How about mixing up the itineraries a little? Include some 10+ day cruises along with all those 7 day trips in Alaska, and even the Caribbean. Offer some B2B options other than the standard East/West in the Caribbean. I was trying to plan future cruises last night and was surprised at how cookie-cutter the itineraries are getting. P.S. Please build something other than a super-Grand class. Say, something in the 60,000 GRT/1500 pax range.
Tak8 Posted August 31, 2005 #67 Share Posted August 31, 2005 I would also like to see Princess offer the Southern caribbean route during the summer. As a teacher, it''s difficult to take vacations except during summer time. I also like the idea of adding a fourth island to the Eastern route. kendon Posted August 31, 2005 #68 Share Posted August 31, 2005 I can see that so many of you agree that Princess should put more emphasis on the smaller ships such as the Sun, Dawn, Island and Coral. These ships make for a much better all around cruise experience!
DanBoy Posted August 31, 2005 #69 Share Posted August 31, 2005 I vote for Bermuda from NY or Bayonne NJ...and I really LOVED "Costa Maya" and how it was designed just for cruise passengers....Wish they would replace Jamaica with that stop on the western route! catdancers Posted August 31, 2005 #70 Share Posted August 31, 2005 It's hard for us to take more than a 7 or 8 day cruise right now and the pickings are slim once you've done a few. I'd love to see some Caribbean cruises with just one port new and different. For instance, could they occasionally add a different island to their standard 7 day Eastern Caribbean itineraries? Maybe make them an 8 day voyage? Would love to see some of the islands in the Southern Caribbean routes but would prefer to sail from CONUS. It would take a lot of cruises to see a lot the islands this way--oh, darn!
madelinerose Posted August 31, 2005 #71 Share Posted August 31, 2005 psupa - I hear you! RCI offers bus transportation as far south as Washington DC going to Cape Liberty. I believe NCL also offers bus transportation. We're sailing on the new Crown out of Brooklyn next year and we'll be using Amtrak. I would like to see them do the 7-day Bermuda cruise with a smaller ship and wish Princess would offer bus transportation to the New York Pier (I'm willing to pay for the bus). calikak Posted August 31, 2005 #72 Share Posted August 31, 2005 I asked one of my non-cruising friends what would get her on a cruise, and she said if they did an Anne of Green Gables-themed cruise (PEI, Halifax, Charlottetown), she'd be interested in that. :) Just wanted to ditto what folks said about more time in port on European cruises. You can't see Paris in a few hours. I spent 8 days there on my honeymoon and still didn't get to see everything I wanted to. I'd also like to see more varied British Isles itineraries, with more stops in Ireland (i.e., Galway, Cork) and Scotland (Oban, Inverness). I get the sense that many folks here are interested in seeing new places, rather than visiting the same towns/islands over and over again. I think people would take a second western caribbean or 7-day Alaska cruise if the ship was stopping in different ports than it did on their last cruise. I don't really have a lot of interest in going to Alaska again, despite having a great time on both our previous cruises, because we'd just be seeing the same ports that we've already seen, and we like to visit new places. I know it's hard for a cruise line to develop new ports of call, at least, harder than just going to the places that already have an infrastructure to support cruise ships. But I think that's a good way to keep past passengers coming back.
Phamer55 Posted August 31, 2005 #73 Share Posted August 31, 2005 I would like: -- Grand class ships out of San Francisco to Alaska. It sounds like this may happen with the Golden in 2007! -- For me, any cruises that embark/disembark in San Francisco are great for me, looking forward to my Mex Riveria cruise out of SF in Nov. -- I would also be up for longer cruises out of Seattle to Alaska. Air faire to Vancouver is so much more expensive than to Seattle. -- More cruises with overnight stays. That is the one problem with cruising - you don't get to experience the night life of a place. This would be ideal if they did more overnights in the Mediterranean like some cruises do with Venice. But I would like to see more overnights in any itinerary. This is why I really want to do a Bermuda cruise one day because of all the overnight stays - and Princess should go back there as well! -- Be sure to keep the Rome to Venice (and vice versa) Greek Island cruises, I want to do this one in 2008! -- Finally, expand the Australia/New Zealand offerings. Include some different ports in Australia and have some overnights!
donna5 Posted August 31, 2005 #74 Share Posted August 31, 2005 More overnights on Hawaiian Cruises. Alt the Caribbean Princess so you could do B2B with diff. itineraries. Rt out of Seattle for Alaska(would avoid the 2-3 hour wait in customs line at YVR) Maybe a caribbean cruise that leaves Ft. Lauderdale and does some Bahamas including Turks and Caicos or some diff. islands that ends in San Juan(to make it maybe a 7-10 day) and then continues from San Juan( for another 7-10 days) going to places such as St. Croix, some of the BVI, Grenada, St. Kitts, St. Vincent etc. They could return to San Juan or use another island as a jump off and start location. On the Mexican Riviera would like ports other than Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco and maybe they could stay at them for 2 days in someplaces. Smiles3usa Posted August 31, 2005 #75 Share Posted August 31, 2005 I would like a cruise that included Gibralter and Morocco and maybe go down the West African coast. Everytime they go to Gibralter I can see Morocco but we are never there long enough to get to Morocco and Casablanca. Hope springs eternal! My sentiments exactly!!! And if that cruise could be between 12-16 days, so much the better--working folks like exotic itineraries too...even if we can't take off a month at a time.
