Rare korky1 Posted April 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2015 Can anyone confirm for me if you are allowed to bring a bottle of wine each on board when starting your cruise when sailing in Australia. I know you can do it when sailing in America but not sure if the same rule applies here. Many thanks
april_jb Posted April 12, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2015 No you are not allowed to bring any alcohol aboard. Ok to bring 12 bottles / cans of soft drink or water 600mls or less. If you buy duty free alcohol on shore it will be held until the end of the cruise.
Rare hammo Posted June 11, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 11, 2015 Seems crazy that there is a different policy for Australia-- one bottle per person in the USA and zero for Australia. Discriminatory. Rum Runners then :p.

How can you buy alcohol duty free in that situation?

april_jb Posted June 20, 2015 #6 Share Posted June 20, 2015 I'm really curious now. I thought the Australian cruises only visited Australian ports? How can you buy alcohol duty free in that situation? The Australian cruises mainly visit South Pacific Island ports and there is duty free shopping on the islands with main towns eg when we were in Vila the Duty free alcohol was quite cheap compared to store prices back home so a lot of people bought their limit of duty free alcohol ashore which is then held by the ship until end of the cruise and must be declared when coming back to Australia. Discriminatory? Probably more likely to be influenced by the laws of the country. After all, Australians are allowed to carry on a bottle of wine per adult if embarking in the United States. Rare korky1 Posted December 30, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted December 30, 2015 It is not due to the laws of the country. I go on Royal Caribbean and Princess cruises in and out of Australia and they both allow us to bring 1 bottle of wine each on board at embarkation. Princess also allows us to bring on a bottle each at each subsequent port. Seems strange that Carnival allow it in America but not here in Australia. Still, not a big issue and certainly no influence on my continuing to enjoy cruising with Carnival - looking forward to my our 5th Carnival cruise in February. hotsauce126 Posted December 30, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 30, 2015 Probably just different corporate policies because, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Carnival Australia is supposed to be a totally separate thing under Carnival Corp
