Room service and to go food

Maybe BECAUSE of those that cancelled their cruise because of this IS part of the reason it has been reversed.

Harriet

Absolutely.

And it's very hard to win a customer back once they've left.

Ncl didn't respect their current customer base when they hauled off and implemented a knee jerk decision based on one pampered exec who is out of touch with his customer base.

(And I'd bet that when he sails he'd get whatever food/meal he wanted whenever he wanted in his suite regardless of his own rules).

I had just booked my 1st cruise on Norwegian, The Getaway, for November 2016. I was really excited to be trying out a different cruise line, having sailed 22 cruises on other Lines. And then this policy was announced. I was really concerned that maybe I'd made a big mistake. Well, not a big mistake, but wondered what was Norwegian all about. I do see both sides of the story, but it seemed Norwegian Loyalist were really upset. And, if they're upset, maybe Norwegian isn't for me. Anyway, the policy has been cancelled. A Good or Bad policy, the people have spoken and the CEO listened. Power to the people! Now, can't wait to try out Norwegian!

BINGO! They saw that money flying out the window and NCL was not happy. Like they say money talks. People took action and it worked.

Correct that to read NCL was great !!

The damage is done, and even though the policy has been reversed, the mindset of the current management leaves me with an uneasy feeling.

I will never feel the comfort and hominess on NCL as I did before the current regime took over and made their feelings known about the guests on their ships.

If a management team feels comfortable uprooting employees who have devoted a good portion of their adult lives to a company, they would certainly have no problem treating their guests in whatever manner suits them. the only thing holding them back is REVENUE !!!!

Are they taking away the room service fee, too? Or just allowing food to be taken back to the rooms?

I was just wondering the same thing! I seen about bringing the food back to the room, but didn't read anything about the $7.95. Maybe someone could answer that.

I'm pretty sure the room service charge remains but at least now there is an alternative. You can bring food back to the room yourself.

Whether or not people complained during the brief trial for the room service fee it would be hard for us to know. Many may have complained but only to their room service person who handed them the bill. It reminds me how some airlines may interpret "there's no complaint about baggage fees". Sure there are complaints... it shows up in the overhead bins when people are trying to cram overstuffed carry-on bags and are not paying to check their bags. Non compliance is another form of complaining.

Those who cancelled their CRUISE----they should have waited---maybe NCL does respect those guests who sail with NCL.....HAPPY SAILING to those who stayed with NCL and to the rest...........!!!!!!!!

I Cancelled my NCL cruise and I'm glad I did. It actually worked out way better for me. I found a cruise on another cruise line with an itinerary I am much more excited about and I also paid a few bucks less. Not only that but I was able to help change something. Oh and I do not have to pay a 7.95 for room service :). HAPPY SAILING!

Thanks! I hope they can do something with the charge to make everyone happy! Although we mostly like room service for morning, it's nice to know that it's a 24 hr. benefit and not an extra charge. I for one, would choose a different cruise line if the price was right and the itinerary one that I wanted.

We're there cancellations because of this policy? Amazing they would trade a great itinerary and ship because of this. No I was not happy about the policy. Ut I would never cancel because of it. Mute point now, YES!

The cancellations were the tip of the iceberg. This caused many to re-think their future cruise plans, so time will tell what impact this has on NCL future bookings. I know it has affected my thinking a lot. So---it is NOT a mute point !!

I am glad this thread remains active . Yes NCL backtracked so some would say , I'ts done - what more is there to say on this topic. True but I look at it as a reminder of what was done and how CC members can rise up in righteous indignation . OK , that is over the top , but it is still important to note that even though NCL (or any cruise line) make the rules , their customers can still voice their opinions, and we did .:) Perhaps it won't matter most times , but this illustrates that sometimes it will .

What was the deciding factor to the reversal? Was it the threat and or cancellation of cruises and possibility of future cruises or the amount of voices against what NCL was introducing. This can help in the future if we the consumer do not like new policies that affect us the consumer. Happy sailing to all....

Looking for a singular solution is rarely the best course of action.

I would guess it was the combination of social media, cancellations, calls and emails to NCL. Consumers should always use a multi pronged attack when trying to effect change or voice displeasure to a new policy.

And the hallways in the hotels in Las Vegas are so much wider than those on a cruise ship. BTW, you might want to try staying in the Laurel Collection at Caesars, as I very rarely see any trays in the hallways.

As an FYI just got off breakaway today and really really looked for dirty plates never ever saw a one nada zilch zippo plates anywhere except where they are supposed to be

Welcome back, you were missed. Guess you were lucky not seeing any dirty plates in the hallways, as many on here have stated that they have seen them in the hallways. Edited by NLH Arizona

Thanks. Between moving to a new house vacation in vegas and cruise on breakaway times been limited. Maybe NCL is making an effort to remove dirty plates quickly if that's the case they are doing a wonderful job.

Maybe they are trying to removed them at a faster rate of speed, which is a good thing. Funny thing, you name disappeared from the member's list, so I was actually worried about you, but glad you are back and got to have a few vacations. Congratulations on your new house.

No one has ever disputed the fact that an occassional plate is seen in a hallway. Since NCL offers room service, and their current policy seems to be to place the dishes in the halls for pick up, where else would they be? If they feel it is a problem, mthey can change their procedures to correct it. Perhaps they have stepped up efforts to get them quickly. There are two current reviews on the first page of this board. Neither OP cites any problem with the halls. The only negatives I recall mentioned are with food quality and waits for food in the dining rooms, two very consistent themes with reviewers.

Welcome back. Hope you had a great cruise on Breakaway. It's my favourite ship. The crew seems to have stepped up their efforts to keep the hallways clear of trays and dishes. Good to hear. Just wondering if they enforced the "carry out" rule at the buffet on your cruise?
