Carnival Elation Beverage Package

Recommended Posts

Could someone please explain to me how the Beverage Package works? I have read about it and I was wondering if it really is $50.00 per person, per day. So, if I go on a 5 day cruise it will cost me $250.00 to get the Beverage Package?

Thanks for your help.

Plus 15% tip and tax on any drinks bought in a us port.

Everyone in the cabin 21+ must buy.

Actually, it will cost you $287.16 for your 5 day cruise. That is $49.95 per day ($249.70) plus the 15% gratuity ($37.46) that is added to the Cheers Program.

There are some nuances, such as any drinks that are bought in a U.S. port during the cruise will also be charged local taxes, and the possibility that you can buy the Cheers package on day 2 which would reduce your price, however the basic gist is that you will pay $287.16 for the Cheers Program for a 5 day cruise per adult in the cabin.

That is what you will pay for 1 adult. If there are 2 adults in the cabin, both must buy the Cheers Program.

It is a bunch of money but so would be your bar bill if you are a big drinker. As an example, my daughter's fiancee and I bought the Cheers package on our Magic cruise in March. My wife and daughter were booked together and John and I were booked in another cabin so I could use 2 future cruise certs. We didn't sleep where we were booked. It was convenient for the drink packages.

It was a 6-day but because of some Texas law, you can't buy the package in US waters in Texas so ours was $287 for 5 days and started on day 2. The first day John spent almost $100 on drinks from boarding around 1 pm till bed time. The package would have been $55 or so for that day if allowed. Most cocktails are close to $10 so it doesn't take many to add up. I barely got my money worth and still felt like a lush. It isn't for everyone.

Lots of Cheers details here:

You can calculate from a dollar perspective whether it is a good deal for you based on how much you typically drink on a cruise. One benefit I like is not having to worry about how much I've spent.

Have a great cruise!

No need to be bitter about it. Nothing wrong with people being more detailed. I am new to posting here but a long time lurker and have seen many people here that have to budget and know the cost of things right down to the penny.

Im thinking about getting the drinks package but I dont know if the Bon Voyage package is better. I know you are limited to 2 bottles per room and they are pretty pricey but Ive heard that the mixed drinks are also pretty pricey. Also was wondering if you can buy bottles after you board the ship or if you are only allowed to preorder.

Some people report being able to purchase bottles of liquor onboard, but it is not guaranteed. I think it is a ship decision which may also consider availability. The bottles you can buy in the gift shops onboard are held for you until the end of the cruise, so those won't help you onboard unless you are doing a B2B cruise.

I've wondered about this. I have 2 back-to-back cruises scheduled and will report the results. The ship does know you are doing a back-to-back, I wonder if the shops know it? Has anyone here ever gotten the first week liquor purchase delivered before a second week of a b2b?

If everyone in the same cabin >21 drinks more than 7-8 drinks/day then its worth it. It makes sense for my wife and I since we hang out by the pool a lot, have some drinks at dinner and also in the evening. We average about 10/day so we came out ahead. Also a big benefit is not worrying about running up the bar tab.

Keep in mind that if you do a lot of excursions and are off the ship that will cut into your time so it might be tougher to get to the break even point on those excursion days.

The concern I have is the $10/drink maximum. What are the prices of cocktails? Does it have to be cheap liquors to get under the $10, or can you get more top shelf liquors for the $10 maximum. I'm just afraid I'll buy this option, but I'll go to order something with Crown or Grey Goose and it won't be covered.

I am pretty sure I ordered a grey goose & tonic and it was covered. I only had an issue one time when I specified Jose Cuervo in my margarita. I had done this multiple times on the cruise with no issue but this one bar tender priced it over $10 so I sent it back or she corrected it - I cant remember.

You might be able to find a drink menu or other discussion on here or you can ask the person at the table when you board.
