Loreto and La Paz

Recommended Posts

Are these ports pretty safe?

What did you do in these ports?

Puerto Vallarto is one of the ports but I know our friends were advised to stay in a restricted area in PV by Carnival recently. If we stop there may stay on ship since we have been there two times already. It is a shame.

Thanks

Laura

Laura, we just returned from a cruise that went to these ports and I absolutely felt safe. I understand your concern about Mexican ports but these are not ports I would worry about.

Loreto is a charming small town that is now one of my favorites. It's a tender port and the tender leaves you very close to the main shopping street. This street doesn't allow cars so you can safely wander around. Part of the street is covered by trees shaped into an arch. There is a small park where you can see dancers and hear music. There are also some charming restaurants.

La Paz is a much busier city as it is the capital of Baja California. The ship docks some ways out of town and you must take a shuttle to get there. It's not as charming as Loreto but we felt perfectly safe. We stayed on the main road that runs along the water. There were lots of shops and restaurants. They also had dancers in the square.

In Puerto Vallarta we took a Princess tour (not sure who you're sailing with) to Las Caletas beach hideaway. You take a boat across the bay to get there and this is the only access. Because of that, we felt very safe there. The only people able to be there were paying guests and staff. It is a fantastic and very safe way to enjoy the day. All food and drinks are included.

I can honestly say that both La Paz and Loreto are about as safe and laid back locations as you are going to find in all of Mexico. Really all of Baja California Sur is the same way. Heck, even the name La Paz, "The Peace", should say say something. Loreto is very isolated on the peninsula and is even quieter than La Paz. Enjoy your visit!

La Paz, Baja California Sur - may 28...Around 5:45PM there was a gunfight between police and suspected hit men at the intersection of bulevar Pino Payas and Francisco J. Mújica, in colonia Villas de Encanto in La Paz. One male is dead.

According to the first reports, the man who died was Adolfo Lucero, who is a news reporter for Channel 10, the local television station.

Although the authorities have not confirmed the cause of death, the cause of the reporter's death was believed to be a heart attack, and he was not hit by any bullets.

According what is reported by Colectivo Pericú, Adolfo Lucero was declared dead at 6:18PM, after he had started to film the violent scene and started to feel sick, asking for help from this companions.

Reporters at the location called for help from paramedics, however, there was nothing they could do.

In addition to the gunfire, there were reported to be hand grenade explosions.

If that's a reason to skip La Paz, then stay out of Tucson, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Chicago, etc, etc.

According to Google Maps, this intersection is over 5 miles (21 minutes by car) from the Kiosco del Malecon where the tourists area is located. It looks like an area where only locals live and no reason for tourists to be unless visiting someone who lives there.

If you are afraid of traveling because of every report of violence that you read in a paper, then you can't travel to any medium or large city in any country.

Hi, we took a taxi with another couple to the Loreto Bay Resort, which was a quiet smallish resort with a lovely pool and right on the beach. Website is http://www.loretobayresort.com. Food was excellent, beach was clean and ocean calm, rented kayaks and had a wonderful day, then taxi back to port. Food was excellent too, had the fish tacos. Well worth going if you want a nice relaxing day.

Can you tell me what the resort charges for a day pass? And also the cost of the kayaks there?
