Free day on Carnival Liberty

Recommended Posts

I received an email this morning from Carnival. The email informs me that they are changing the route of Liberty for December 2016 and we will have an additional FREE day added to our trip.

We were to do a 5 day with stops at Progresso and Cozumel. Now it is a 6 day with stops at Belize, Costa Maya, and Cozumel. :)

We are two families going together. We had planned to do the Cheers package, but since we have 3 stops now and will be off the boat most of those day, it may be cheaper to just buy drinks as we want them.

The sailing has been removed from the Carnival website now, but we are leaving December 17th.

That's awesome! I'd love to get a free day! Have they told you how long your stop will be in Costa Maya? Each time we have gone there, the stop has been only from 9:00 - 2:00, which is a bit shorter than most. So you might be on the boat more than you think? For what it's worth...there is a fun area in Costa Maya that I love to go to...it's called Mahahual. We always hang out at a bar called the Tropicante...lots of fun on the beach!

Costa Maya is 1pm-8pm

Belize is 7am-5pm

Cozumel is 8am-4pm

We just got a new email that has our itinerary and in the money column it says a "discount $227.13" so I assume that is how much extra we would have paid for the 6 day cruise, if that's what we had booked, but we did not get any increase in price of the cruise, nor did they charge us for the 6th day of optional gratuity.

Technically you still have just 3 sea days. One can argue that the stop in Costa Maya is relatively short, 7A/8A-2P/3P, as opposed to a typical 5P departure, and you can count it as a 1/2 sea day. But that could actually add to the "benefit" of doing Cheers. But you would have to pay for 6 days Cheers not 5 days. so that might detract.

There was a nice thread on this board earlier this week that gave a good recap of the rationale for doing Cheers, whether or not you ever reach the 15 day limit. Serve seems to be slower at certain bars/venues for people with the wrist band. And a couple of posters cautioned that if you get a "Drinks on Us" coupon from the casino, those drinks count against your 15. So if you gamble and are eligible to get a "drinks on Us" for one day, that detracts from the benefit of cheers as well.

I suggest you grab a recent Drinks menu and figure out exactly how many and which kinds of drinks you might realistically consume in a typical cruise day, both a sea day and a port day, if you were paying for them and compare that to the price of Cheers. Then go with which is the most cost efficient for you. If you're within the cost of a drink or two, take the Cheers, because you'll probably have those drinks anyway and any drink that would have put your bar tab above the Cheers cost will be deemed "free" from your view point.

The email says to contact Carnival if this cannot accommodate your schedule. I assume if people already have flight departures for December 2016, Carnival will work with that??

Oh, I love your time in Costa Maya! When we were suppose to dock there it was a 7am to 2 pm stop...too early in the morning. :( I like to sleep in some on vacation!

We are booked for the Liberty Dec 31, 2016 5 day, but I got a phone call today that the date has been changed to Dec 28th still for 5 days. They said if we could not change our dates that we would receive a full refund. I think we will keep it as we were wanting a New Years cruise and it still will be!

And neither of those dates, the 28th or the 31st are showing up on the website right now...

What happens to those that hotels or flights booked after?

Nice deal if you havent already booked flights. Figure hotels can be changed cancelled so far out

Being that their cruise is a year and a half away, it would be unlikely anyone booked airfare that far in advance as most airlines will not allow bookings too far out.

And hotels can normally be changed.
