What is Carly B like as a CD? Anyone know?

 

I like her a lot. I've booked a couple cruises simply because she has been cd on them. She's visible around the ship and approachable.

 

I've heard that she's going to be on mid September through mid November.

So, the handover will be after the transatlantic rather than before. Sept 15 is the first cruise out of NJ. And, Nov 13 is the only sailing that's "mid" November. I'm going with those dates for Carly, for now.

Ken's primary role is doing behind the scenes work on the new builds. He was on Quantum for the first two months, then on Anthem for the first two months, invisibly backing up the CD and helping to provide a smooth takeout. (When we were on Quantum, we NEVER saw him, and wouldn't have known he was onboard if it wasn't for CC) Then he was on Quantum during the repositioning to prepare the staff for the Asian market.

 

Presumably, he will also be on Harmony and Ovation in the same capacity. In between, he works with the new builds at the shipyard, and he fills in on the larger/newer ships as CD during the regular CD's break.

We thought she was totally ineffective as a CD on the Jewel. That was the most boring cruise we've ever been on, and the activities/entertainment were very lacking. Even a dynamic Activities Manager (Elvis Pinto) didn't help her.

I surely hope that Elvis Pinto gets a promotion to CD, as we had heard he was supposed to get in months past. He can only do so much, as the AM, to create a magical experience on board. Lots has to do with his interaction with the CD as well as the activities themselves planned on board.

 

On the smaller ships like, Jewel, an ineffective CD can put a damper on the theme/atmosphere around the ship and even the dynamic Elvis, can only help so much.

I first met her on the RH Circumnavigation of OZ/NZ. There were several problems at some of the ports because the ship was calling there for the first time. Carly managed to get us the information we needed.

 

There was one time when a woman said her husband had complained that too many of the activities were for women. Carly asked her what he would like to do and the next day it was on the program.

 

I've sailed with her at least twice since then and I have found her as responsive as before.

We cruised with Carly as our CD on the Serenade in May and thought she was great. Only time we have been invited to dinner with an officer and she was present for the cocktail time before dinner. Everyone got to know her well because of that and then we sat beside her for dinner. I posted about how we enjoyed her on a thread earlier and got very negative responses and seems like no-one liked her as we did.

 

Of course she is married to a Canadian and we are from that country so maybe earned extra points because of that connection. We are delighted that she will be on our Snowbird Migration cruise in October.

That is an interesting point and I'm glad you posted. A lot of people dislike Ken Rush because of his one on one approach, but I like how he does his job. But I've never found my self in the situation you mentioned. I did talk to Carly at the sail away from Barbados, she was nice to talk to.
