"LIVE" from Norwegian Getaway - Oct 17, 2015

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone . . . Welcome to the start of “LIVE” from Norwegian Getaway. I will be boarding Amtrak AutoTrain tomorrow. My train leaves in the afternoon and I should arrive in Sanford, FL on Friday morning. I will drive down to Miami (4-5hrs) where I will have my pre cruise hotel stay. On Saturday October 16th I will board the magnificent Norwegian Getaway.

It has been a long time since I have posted “LIVE” (Quantum of the Seas Jan 2015 can be viewed HERE, so I am really itching to provide some details on Norwegian Getaway and my voyage.

My goal is really to provide a day by day report on ship life for 7 nights. My plan is to include photos and commentary each day on the ship public areas, dining, entertainment and port of call highlights.

The internet speed and bandwidth will play a big roll, as I have been reading some sour reviews on internet connectivity. Norwegian Getaway will not have the lightning fast speeds as Quantum did in January.

The itinerary should be very nice, as we are scheduled to visit St. Thomas, USVI and Road Town, Tortola BVI. We will finish up stopping in Nassau for a few hours. I am hoping for no diversions as I really want to visit beautiful St. Thomas.

I am looking forward to seeing several ships during this voyage. I should be able to see Norwegian Star, Carnival Glory, Carnival Victory, P&O Arcadia, and Carnival Breeze.

The weather for this sailing should be pleasant. It will be nice to have some sun and clear skies for a few days. Caribbean weather as you know is never guaranteed and I am sure there may be a shower or two during the next seven nights. The warmer temperatures will be nice enough though . . . rain or shine.

I will be leaving tomorrow morning for my short drive to Lorton, VA where I will board AutoTrain around 2. AutoTrain is scheduled to leave by 4PM and head south 995 miles to Sanford, FL. (20 miles north of Orlando)

My next 10 nights should be fun, so sit back and grab a coffee and enjoy Norwegian Getaway.

Cant wait to read. I dont know if you take question requests, but IF you have the UBP can you try to order a drink such as a vodka-Redbull to see if they tell you no. I understand I cant just ask for a can of Red Bull, but I figure if used as a mixer in a very standard drink it should be acceptable but have seen varied information. Thank you so much and enjoy your trip!!

HI all!

Radio ~ looking forward to seeing the Getaway through your eyes & also what you do in Tortola, a place I've never seen yet.

I sailed Getaway in May 2014 & loved her! The ship is beautiful, the staff friendly & the food best ever, I thought.

Safe travels to the ship & have a great cruise!

Hello everyone. . . I made it onboard AutoTrain, and we left a little early today at 3:45PM.

AutoTrain is the longest passenger train in the world, and I find it to be a very relaxing way to travel.

Yes, I know I know . . . It is much faster and cheaper to travel to Florida by air. AutoTrain however often travels full,

and there are many passengers who enjoy rail travel like me.

Today the Southbound AutoTrain has 16 passenger cars, 32 auto carriers and 2 engines.

There is also a lounge car and dining car for coach, and another lounge and dining car for first class passengers (with sleepers)

I will walk two cars forward for my dinner tonight. I always like the food on this train, a

nd I'm sure it will be very good. AutoTrain always plays a movie in the Lounge Car (next to the dining car)

They play the same movie twice after dinners at 7 and 9PM. There are always complimentary snacks served

during the movie, and drinks are served for passengers ($)

The journey will be non-stop except for a short crew change and fuel change in Florence, SC.

We are scheduled to arrive in Sanford, FL tomorrow at 8:30AM. It will take about 30 minutes to release

the cars and I will be on my way to Miami.

Well it’s just about time for some dinner, and a coffee or two . . . Here are a few pics. The connection on

board is a little rough, so I will add more as I get a good signal. . .

I am excited that I am finally going to manage to read a Radio review, well, LIVE! I usually only manage to find your reviews after you are back on shore and plannimg your next cruise. I'm sure that following your review as it is being written will be much more fun than reading after the fact! :D
