Zeebrugge to Brugge help

Not having been to Northern Europe, can someone advise us the best way to get from the port in Zeebrugge to Brugge using the tram/train? Cost? Where to get tickets? ATM availability? How much time does it take?

Going next summer and a bit confusing since nothing direct from port to Brugge.

Thanks

Ed

been awhile so will not give details as may have changed

there was a bus from the port into the port town. dropped off near the train station. there was an automated ticket machine that would not recognize our credit card for some reason..so as there was a long line for tickets we decided to walk around the town a bit..did so and went back to the train station...tickets easy to buy and cheap...

I would search cruise critic for Brugge and you will likely find instructions

Taxis available on the quayside, or pre-book to be sure of availability. On-spec or pre-booked about 50 euros e/w. A heavy price partly because of port charges, but many carry 6 passengers so not too bad if you share. Get the driver to drop you at the Grotemarkt, right in the centre.

Alternatively cruise shuttle bus (usually payable) from ship to Blankenberge station, about 3 miles. Hourly train, was at 11 mins past the hour but worth checking, costs about 6 euros day-return (that's probably gone up a shade), journey time under 15 minutes. Its then a 15 minute walk to the cobbled centre. Train back 25 mins to the hour (again, worth checking), & be sure to get on the correct end of the train - when it arrives in Bruges it splits into two end destinations, so make sure you're in the Blankenberge half.

Because of the shuttle it's difficult to time it right to get to B/Berge station for an hourly train - if you just miss one, check the cost of a taxi at the station rank - they don't have to pay the port entry fee, so shouldn't cost more.

The third alternative is ship's Bruges-on-your-own transfer bus. Over-priced of course, and large buses aren't allowed in the centre so you're dropped at the little red pedestrian bridge which crosses Minnewater. From there it's a 15-20 minute walk to the centre, or a one-euro ride in a little local bus.

If you click to the Northern Europe forum & type Zeebrugge or Bruges or Brugge into the search box it'll bring up plenty of threads on the subject, with more - and perhaps more up-to-date - info.

My wife & I looked carefully over all the options, and chose to take a cab. The local driver spoke perfect English, and told us all about the area on the way there. We asked him if he would also pick us up at an appointed time which he did. Price was about 45 Euros each way. BTW Bruges was one of our favorite ports. We did a canal ride, brewery, chocolatier, and had a local raspberry beer and French fries at a table on the main square. Fun!

May 2015 we joined a group from our roll call--I think there were 6 of us--$100 RT +/-.less than $20 p.p. for a taxi with prearranged return pick-up. We were dropped off right in the middle of town. Do take the canal boat ride--do it as early as possible--by noon the lines are very long.
