Oasis of the Seas Person overboard

Thanks, my investigative friend. Learn something new everyday. Interesting that the Feds allowed that to stand, with state trumping federal.

Me too. I had to do a lot of study into that law and basically, it was supported by the feds, mostly due to domestic disputes. In an every day domestic or even a simple battery, federal authorities have no authority to take action when the victim is uncooperative. The state, on the other hand, has a preferred arrest policy. The domestic angle could have something to do with the request being brought to Broward County.

That said, every time I have seen Stepansky used, it was the feds requesting it of the locals, so I guess cause to challenge it between jurisdictions has never been warranted.

I sure hope RCCL does not "settle this" and give this guys family anything. I honestly would like to see the other passengers get together and counter sue the family for ruining their vacation! Of course, I feel incredible compassion for this man's death. I am just angry and tired of everyone suing for their own wrong actions. We need to do something to hold these folks accountable and maybe this would be it???

I agree.

All we will ever hear is the lawyer's "story" and if the family is allowed by him to speak, from them. RCI doesn't usually comment beyond what they've already stated. I see this as a ambulance chasing lawyer who sees a big payday and has to exaggerate and even lie in order to increase the settlement, because, unfortunately, this will be settled and never see court just like most lawsuits. It's hard to prove what they are saying/claiming though without witnesses and that's where it will get interesting.

It seems like this is an instance where there are quite a few witnesses -- certainly to the events once the man was on the lifeboat, but hopefully also to events leading up to the passenger going overboard. I would imagine those in neighboring cabins could have seen/heard quite a bit that will be helpful in either refuting or corroborating the husband's claims.

Where the heck do you work .. in a concentration camp ?? Your company has had over 1000 deaths of adults and children in "mishaps, crimes and accidents?" and it hasn't been shut down?

And you've personally witnessed all of them? Hmmm ..

I think this person meant 'in my company' as in: with me present.

If this person works in an ER at a large city, it is very possible to witness that many people dying. He/she even lists the causes, which could all be medical emergencies. I have no stake in this, but I think you just read it wrong. :-)

I think we can probably all agree on two things:

1. Discrimination, Racism, or Bigotry in Any Form is wrong and should not be tolerated.

2. All we know are snippets of the story and rumors. We may never know it all!

Most sensible post of the thread. You're a smart man.

So how about you stop reading and the rest of us can decide for ourselves when it is time to leave it?

thanks

I agree.

For me reading all points of view..............very very interesting.

All are expressing their views and insight.

Facts and rumors.

But, prayers to all involved.

I am not a lawyer but call this ambulance chasing at its finest.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Some attorney's office probably sent a very nice limousine and private escort to accompany this man off of the ship and straight to his office. Actually, there were probably several private cars waiting for this man ready to make beelines to the offices of some very fine Broward County attorneys.

I'm not entirely convinced the husband saw this.

It seems from his reaction in the video and the actions he is taking post incident that leads me to believe he possibly was not witness to how exactly his husband physically came to be on the life boat support.

It would make sense as to why he is reacting the way he is. If the cruiseline security does indeed show Mr. Albaz climbing the rail on his own accord and placing himself on the life boat support, it may calm things down.

I don't believe he has been presented any video of the events yet. Royal's legal council and the authorities are probably vetting the video first.

I am not sure it would make any difference honestly. The human mind is an amazing thing and when we cannot accept certain things - the ability to deny and deflect defies reason. My brother in law committed suicide and to this day my sister will say he was murdered. The facts do nothing to change her opinion. She just flat cannot accept the truth.

This is sad what happened, but After watching the video and trying to determine who kept saying don't touch me. It was the husband all long screaming and telling the crew not to touch him. Now after really listening to what is being said. The husband says "because of you this happened, because I stepped out the door".

I believe they were on the balcony arguing and the people next door called security and when security knocked on the door and the husband left from the balcony to answer the door, and that is when the guy climbed over and jumped. That is why the husband is blaming the security and saying they murdered him, because he feels if they had not knocked on the door and went to answer the door, his husband would not have jumped.

Now this is my opinion. The husband claiming it was because the crew was making gay jokes or whatever. I've been on 3 cruises and never have seen or heard any of the crew members being disrepectful to anyone, maybe cruise passengers but the crew it's just so hard to believe. Now I heard drinking was involved. I think one of them was maybe embarrassing the other or flirting and thats what caused the argument between them, now i could be wrong but like I said thats my opinion.

I think the lawyer is behind the claims the husband is making, to hide what really happened, but the only ones that know the truth is the two that was in the cabin but only one can speak, and the cruise passengers that may have been at the bar where the insults happened. Again this is just my opinion.

I tend to agree with you. We'll probably never know the truth, but this line of events seems to match up with what we know. I have watched the video a few times.

Some may think I am deranged, but when I was in high school & college I was fascinated with investigating and crime scenes. I shadowed the Broward Medical Examiner for a day. I changed my major because I could not handle the gore of it, but I still love watching the ID channel. I always want to solve a puzzle. For me this is a puzzle. Yes, a sad one.

It's a shame this lawyer is pulling for such an angle. I honestly hope that Royal has videos to prove that the "claimed" story is not true. I

I'm a bit shocked. 23 pages and not one person has mentioned that we need Congress (that has nothing better to do) to investigate again why it is so easy to fall/jump from a cruise ship.

I'm being sarcastic by the way.

Because you can't just "fall" from a cruise ship and if someone is determined to jump there's nothing Congress or anyone else can do to stop them.

Wow. I'm not sure how to take your response.

I would think that the investigation requirements over the death of a fellow human being would prioritize over the ship leaving on time the next day.

and all that would be required is the blocking of access to the cabin involved. NOT shutting down the entire ship.

seriously though, even the cops like to release a scene ASAP.
