Spent about an hour on the phone with Princess, but we weren't able to determine the cause of the problem. It's possibly a slow internet speed, java issue, or site security issue.

Anyway, I solved the problem by forwarding the gift card e-mails to a friend, who took pictures of the gift cards with her i-phone, and then she e-mailed me the pictures.

At least it's resolved and done with now.:D

Sorry you had such an ordeal. I had a little snag with the Reps trying to put my free $50 cards towards my account but it worked out. Pays to be persistent right? And that extra $100 will be used on quite a few Dirty Monkeys!

What a smart cookie!! Glad it worked out for you.

I did go back to have my husband buy me the second one and split that one out into $250 denominations. Previous to this, I called to make sure I could stack my gift cards to make a final payment....the leftovers will go towards onboard expenses. I also questioned if I plunked them down on the cruise to pay it off, what would happen if I had to cancel?

Well, it appeared to be their first go around with this situation...nobody had the answer and at first, the TA relayed the message that they are non-refundable so I could not get a refund -- I wasn't asking for a cash refund but would the value go back onto the gift card or could that value be transferred to another cruise payment.

So, after much time on the phone with these questions - which obviously nobody had the answer to -- I was told that you can stack the values (not limited to just one card per reservation) and I guess the value might be refunded to you in the way of a gift card. I wasn't really confident with the answer as they seemed to be making it up ... but also am not planning on paying for my cruise with the gift card amount until final payment now....and I never cancel after final payment unless it is unforeseen and in that case, the insurance will take care of it.

Wow...after pulling out the answers to these questions, I was exhausted!! It took them close to an hour. I didn't have the perseverance to ask them if I could apply the amounts to casino charges, bingo, gratuities, etc. while onboard. I believe I am not allowed to use them for excursions and airfare. To anyone's knowledge, do you think gratuities and casino charges will be ok?

I am going to use our bonus cards, one for me and one for my DH on our cruise in a couple of weeks....so will use these before they expire. As above, will use some of the other ones for final payment and use the left over ones as onboard credit depending how that works out on this next cruise. I hope the passenger's service desk staff is a bit more up on this than the reps down at the Princess call center. But all is good. I will try to remember to report back with my experience once I am back.

Thank you for all of the information! I have a hold on a last minute cruise for my birthday in January. DH should know tomorrow if he gets the time off. I'm going to use the $1000 card and the $50 card when I make the final payment and be done with it.

I wouldn't count on the passenger's service desk to know anything about the cards. I would just tell them that you want them applied to your shipboard account. Then I would get a print out of my account to show that the cards were applied to the balance.

Enjoy your next cruise.:)

That is what I am doing as well. Princess sent me an account balance in what they call a "Special Services Summary Spreadsheet" that shows $608 on my onboard account. This was what was leftover after paying for my cruise using 2 $1000 gift cards For some reason it doesn't show up in my Personalizer. The 2 $50 bonus credits do show up in the section where you buy onboard credit down at the bottom of the page which is weird. I will try and report back also. The rep did say I can use the onboard credit for anything I would normally use credit for (ie excursions, drinks, casino, etc) Not worried about any extra being leftover after the cruise as it's a 2 weeker and I'm using the credit for tips and drinks. My cruise is 14 Feb-28 Feb on CBP so just within the deadline for using the bonus cards.

I agree acting confident, courteous, and professional on the phone seems to do the trick. My TA got the run around yesterday with trying to put the bonus cards onto my account but I called this morning and used my Air Force Major voice and bing bang boom no problems. In fact I had her laughing at the end of the conversation.

Cheers!

Finally got the gift cards applied to my booking. Our TA was able to apply them with no problems at all, even the $50.00 one. So happy to be going to Mexico for my birthday.:D

Yay! So happy for you that it all worked out. Happy birthday!!

Also, thanks for everyone for their responses. I am sure I will have absolutely NO problem using up these credits onboard or for payment towards one of my cruises. :)

  • 4 weeks later...

I believe I promised to report back on how this all worked out.

I purchased $1000 in gift cards and my DH did the same so we had 2 extra gift cards to use on our cruise. I merely submitted the $50 ones at the front desk and they were immediately posted as a credit. The front desk staff was sharp ... so glad they made it easy breezy. Actually wished I would have taken more than I did but it all worked out.
