The_0neuk Posted December 10, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2015 Last night I booked a guaranteed balcony on independance's transatlantic cruise in may 2016 When I go into my cruise planner next to state room it says: Deck 06, Superior Ocean View Stateroom #6394 Does this mean its been allocated already? I thought it gets allocated close to the cruise?

Rare brillohead Posted December 10, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 10, 2015 (edited) You can also switch to another room in that same category, if the location doesn't work for you. Edited December 10, 2015 by brillohead

Cabin 6394 on independence is a balcony room Don't know why it says ocean view!
Clarea Posted December 10, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 10, 2015 You can also switch to another room in that same category, if the location doesn't work for you. OP is from the UK and has different booking rules.
The_0neuk Posted December 11, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted December 11, 2015 Struggling to find much information on 6394 to see if its a decent/good room and whether balcony is obstructed or not
Clarea Posted December 11, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 11, 2015 Struggling to find much information on 6394 to see if its a decent/good room and whether balcony is obstructed or not 6394 does not show as obstructed on the deck plan. However, it is a connecting stateroom.
robtulipe Posted December 11, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 11, 2015 (edited) We were on Freedom, Independence's sister ship, just over a month ago and there isn't any obstruction for the balcony of cabin 6394. It's called an Ocean View because that's the view it has. On Oasis class ships there are Boardwalk and Central Park view balcony cabins that face into those center sections of the ship. The actual correct designation for these are Superior Ocean View Staterooms with Balcony. Below is a blow up shot of your balcony which is indicated by the arrow. Biker19 Posted December 11, 2015 #10 Share Posted December 11, 2015 Does this mean its been allocated already? I thought it gets allocated close to the cruise? Cabin assignment on GTY booking can happen within hours of booking or as late as embarkation, but generally closer to booking.

Some ocean views have an obstructed view such as the life boats. Perhaps this is what the OP was referring to with the question. On the Oasis class the Boardwalk and Central Park cabins are not called "Superior Oceanview" but "Boardwalk View Stateroom with Balcony (B1)" and "Central Park View Stateroom with Balcony (C1)". Superior Oceanview refers to balcony rooms (D1 - D8).
maryjaden Posted December 11, 2015 #12 Share Posted December 11, 2015 On our Oasis cruise we booked a JS guarantee and within a week were assigned a GS.

maryjaden Posted December 11, 2015 #15 Share Posted December 11, 2015 Man I need to start using Guarantees! That was my thought for future bookings. That was my first booking using a guarantee. Next time I will probably end up with the worst cabin in the category, but it might be worth the risk ....lol

The last statement was in reference to the OP cabin 6394 which is a D1 Superior Ocean View Balcony Staterooms . After 50 cruises I do know the difference between an oceanview and inward view stateroom having been in both types. I do agree that sometimes RCI's nomenclature is confusing. ;) Edited December 11, 2015 by robtulipe

Next time I will probably end up with the worst cabin in the category, but it might be worth the risk ....lol For our upcoming Anthem cruise we saved over $1000US by going with X balcony guarantee that was assigned a Deck 10 D7 stateroom compared to what it would have cost if we had selected that cabin. After our cabin was assigned to us, which was the day after we booked, I checked the current D7 cabin availability for our cruise and it's location was the one most preferred by us. We've done 20 cruise bookings as guarantees and have been assigned upgraded cabins 18 times. A quarters of these guarantees resulted in what I consider to be a mega upgrade, being upgraded up one or two class of cabin.
