Taxi for 4 to Port

My family will be staying at Staybridge Suites the night before our cruise, which Google maps shows as 0.5 miles from the cruise terminal. I've read that it is a $10 per person fixed rate to take a cab to the port...would we really be charged $40 for two adults and two teens to travel that half-mile???? If true, would it be a reasonable option from that location for three of us to walk, and have one person travel by taxi with the bags?

I do not know what they would charge for 4, but KLM Transportation to take us apprx 6 blocks to Port was $7 per person, 11 people.

Six of us took a taxi from the garden district, it was $8 per person for a five minute ride. $48 I couldn't believe it!!
