Rare Solent Richard Posted March 10, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 10, 2016 My wife and I have recently returned from a 14 night river cruise along Myanmar’s (Burma’s) Irrawaddy River between Mandalay and Yangon (formerly Rangoon) The Princess Panhwar is a brand new boutique style river cruise ship custom built for sailing the Irrawaddy. She was launched on 9 January 2016 and ours was the fourth transit in what is her maiden season... With 14 nights onboard, 597 miles of river to cover and 16 stops, each with either an excursion or walking tour, this was a high activity cruise and an amazing journey. A full review with over 100 pictures can be found on my blog page... http://solentrichardscruiseblog.com/2016/03/10/princess-panhwar-on-the-road-to-mandalay/ We had booked a Princess Suite at the front of the ship and really appreciated the panoramic views this offered... Hopefully the following will give an illustration of what I did consider the outstanding highlights from a brief selection of photographs that i refer to as ‘Images of Burma‘... Captain's daily welcome... The Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon... Buddhist nuns in Mandalay...
Rare Solent Richard Posted March 10, 2016 Author #2 Share Posted March 10, 2016 (edited) Due to limited images in one post here are a few more to give a wider flavour of Myanmar. A balloon ride over Bagan, the most amazing Buddhist archeological site in the country... Yours truly dressed in the traditional Burmese longyi... A senior Buddhist monk's funeral procession... ancientmariner Posted March 10, 2016 #5 Share Posted March 10, 2016 Thank you so much for posting your blog and photos. I shall be taking this trip on the Princess Panhwar in September, so it has been very useful to know what I'll have in store.

Oldgables Posted December 17, 2016 #7 Share Posted December 17, 2016 We will be doing the same cruise next March so your blog was fascinating. Just one query: did you need much currency during the cruise and, if so, did you use American dollars or buy kyats at the airport?
