Rare mitsugirly Posted April 24, 2016 Author #601 Share Posted April 24, 2016 I was on the same cruise as the other poster. I did not do the group tour with Liz and I am so thankful I didn't. They had an awful time and Liz was very rude to many of them. We just took a cab to the Mundo's which was the next beach club down. We paid $6 per person since we had a group of 18. I had actually contacted liz about getting just a beach transfer and she was charging way more. Yea, I kinda learned my lesson this time. Thanks for confirming it was not a good choice. :)
Rare mitsugirly Posted April 24, 2016 Author #602 Share Posted April 24, 2016 We had to take some time out and take Sakari to see The Jungle Book in 3D. It was awesome. So...back to the review for a little until I head to bed. ST MAARTEN- 8AM-5PM We decided to head to Little Divi Bay for our day in St Maarten from suggestions of people here on the boards. It looked and sounded perfect to us and I really liked that it was so close to port, providing us with a longer stay there if we liked it. I woke up around 6:30am HA! Up before I heard any.....nevermind, there was clanging and that's probably what woke me up and I just didn't realize it because about 2 minutes later, my alarm was going off....which of course meant that I didn't actually wake up due to the alarm. Sigh Woke the family up and we headed to breakfast. For some reason I made a note that only 2 sides were open at the buffet "Oh great". Now, I would think that 2 sides being open would be a good thing right? So I have no idea what I meant by that and it must have not been all of the buffet? I'm making a note to myself to take better notes next time. There were plenty of seats in the buffet area this time, so I guess that was a good thing. This lady was walking around offering to refill your drinks. I thought that was a nice added touch for Carnival to do. I know NCL sometimes does things like this. We started docking at 7:15am but couldn't get off the ship yet. ....And then look who pulls in...her majesty herself...the Allure. Man she is massive. I.WILL.SAIL.HER.SOME.DAY!! She started "backing up" and people around us were making comments like "You know that's one bad-a§§ captain when you can take a ship that size and just "backer-in" like it was nothing. As soon as she moved, this appeared. Wow, now THAT'S what you call an entrance! Well done Allure.
Rare mitsugirly Posted April 24, 2016 Author #603 Share Posted April 24, 2016 We were able to get off the ship at 8am and we headed toward the taxi stand.
Rare mitsugirly Posted April 24, 2016 Author #604 Share Posted April 24, 2016 The taxi stand: The cost to get to Little Divi Bay was $5pp. We hopped in and we were on our way. Well, it looks like Celebrity made it to the dock as well. It was an 8 minute drive to Divi Bay according to my pictures and watch. Not bad at all. The cab lady that was driving us was NOT friendly at all and was really snotty with her replies and remarks. She obviously rolled out of bed on the wrong side...well guess what, I rolled out of bed to clanging pots and pans being throw at my ceiling and I wasn't rude, so there's no excuse for the way you are talking to people and the "attitude". I guess that caused you your tip money. Here's $15 and I hope you aren't the one to pick us up. Good day. I seriously hate rude people, especially if you job is customer service. Rare mitsugirly Posted April 24, 2016 Author #605 Share Posted April 24, 2016 Now this looked like a nice resort. This was the reception desk area where you check-in. I love how it was all open like this but always wonder what happens when a hurricane comes?
skidawg79 Posted April 24, 2016 #606 Share Posted April 24, 2016 Can I ask you how much your taxi cost to Reggae? Just wondering because of something I heard on our ride back from Reggae, from another cruiser. Hey Kim, this is a quick excerpt from my review that I did when i was there. This was two years ago, so not sure if rates are the same but these are the rates when i was there: "We did a little shopping, got a magnet (got it early today haha) and met a gentleman ready to take us to the beach. We ended up getting the whole cab to ourselves, paid a little more for it, but we pretty much had a personal tour of the island! (Rates for cabs to cockleshell beach are as follows: 1-3 people $28 for the cab, 4+ people is $7 per person). While waiting for the guy to get his cab I took a pic of the ship in port…"
Rare mitsugirly Posted April 24, 2016 Author #607 Share Posted April 24, 2016 We headed up to the lady at the desk and told her we were here from the cruise ship to spend the day and wanted to rent chairs and an umbrella. She told us to head on out to the beach and one of the chair guys would be around. It was a little cloudy off and on and I was really unsure of what type of day this was going to be. I had hoped that it would clear up and little and the sun would come out. But it was still pretty early. We found some chairs and had a seat. The guys were going around putting out the chairs and arranging them along the beach. They looked at us but never came over. There was hardly anyone out on the beach. I guess maybe because it was a resort and if I was staying here, I would still be asleep. I liked how they had the chairs spread so far apart. I always hate when they have chairs piled up on top of each other and you can't have a conversation without the neighbors hearing everything. Rare mitsugirly Posted April 24, 2016 Author #608 Share Posted April 24, 2016 Like always, Sakari couldn't wait to head to the water. I told her not with the mermaid tail yet. I needed to check out the water first and I couldn't do that yet because I was waiting on the "beach boys" to come around. This place had some waves too, but not too bad. I was really worried about the waves because I know this place is on the same side as Maho Beach and the waves there are insane most of the time. I was pleasantly surprised. Rare mitsugirly Posted April 24, 2016 Author #609 Share Posted April 24, 2016 After the beach boys were almost done with the chairs, I tracked one down and told him I wanted to pay for our chairs. He took our money and politely ask us if we cared to move down to the other side. I guess the side we were on belonged to the guest there at the hotel. So, no problem. We gathered our bags and moved to the other side of the volleyball net, which wasn't far at all. We were the only ones here so far. Once we were settled in, I would head out to the water with Sakari and check things out. Then of course this happened... Morphing Mermaid Sakari time. She always strikes a pose. I don't know where she gets this bent legs holding onto your tail pose at. Maybe they do this in a movie she watches? I have no clue. She does it all the time and especially when she's getting her picture taken.
Rare mitsugirly Posted April 24, 2016 Author #610 Share Posted April 24, 2016 Sakari pops up out of the water and says "Mommy, you have to go all the way in and go under. It's so pretty under the water!" Ok, the sun is not shining and I have been inching my way in for the last 20 minutes, but because I know you have such an appreciation for the water, I will go all the way in to see what you are talking about. The water was really clear and with the waves rolling in and out, it made a ripple look on the ocean floor. Within the sand, you could see tiny shells and they glowed like little stars in the sky...only in the ocean. Now like I said, the water was very clear, however with this really fine soft sand, it was the type that the minute you put your feet down, it created a "sand cloud" and fogged everything up. The only fish we would see here today were a few Palometa fish following us and weaving in between our legs during the day.
Rare mitsugirly Posted April 24, 2016 Author #611 Share Posted April 24, 2016 Sakari and I stayed out in the water playing for quite some time. My bubble maker All of a sudden, Sakari goes out of the water and I ask her what she is doing. She said "I'm taking my mermaid tail off for now and taking a break." LOL Um ok, never heard this child ever say she needed a break before. I decided it was the perfect opportunity to take a walk and look around. I headed down the beach. I discovered the Tiki Hut Snorkeling Park out in the water. I know this is the place that everyone said the snorkeling was. There's just no way I'm willing to swim that far at this time. I'm overweight and out of shape at the moment and I won't do it alone. Since Kendra didn't come this time, I'll have to pass. It looked a little too far for me. Rare mitsugirly Posted April 24, 2016 Author #612 Share Posted April 24, 2016 There were plenty of boats out there so there must have been some good snorkeling. There was free internet here so the hubby was checking in on his work. Just ask the beach boys for the password and it worked decent on the beach. Sakari was back at it again swimming, but without her tail this time. Ok, I'm game. We look up and look who decided to get in the water. That little sneak. Rare mitsugirly Posted April 24, 2016 Author #613 Share Posted April 24, 2016 Snorkel buddies, only there wasn't any snorkeling today. That makes strike 4 for me this cruise. I noticed this and thought...Oh my gosh, there's going to be a wedding today! The dresses were hung on their balcony. (I would like to make note...as great as my camera is with pictures, it completely SUCKS at any picture you take that is zoomed in. It does not, no matter what setting you do, take good pictures of any kind when you zoom. I always have a tendency to forget this...until I get home and see the blur). Rare mitsugirly Posted April 24, 2016 Author #614 Share Posted April 24, 2016 Ok, stopping for the night. I can't believe it's already 1:30am. I haven't stayed up this late in forever now. Sakari is into a dinosaur movie right now and maybe that's why I haven't noticed the time. I'll be back tomorrow to finish our day out at St Maarten. :)
Rare perfect match Posted April 24, 2016 #615 Share Posted April 24, 2016 I am so excited to see your pictures of Little Divi! We have considered staying there because of the view across the bay of the cruise port. I'm wondering if you think this would be a decent place to stay? I love Sakari's new blue mermaid tail! That was my favorite color when I looked at them.It is scary that Sakari had her foot pop out of the monofin while swimming. I'm glad you were right there with her. You're a smart Mom! I'm wonderimg now if there is some way she could learn to pop her foot back in if it ever happens again. I did watch the video on the website, but I can't picture exactly how the monofin inserts into the tail, or how she could get her hands on the opening to the monofin so she could put her foot back in. Maybe you could email them and ask if there is something she can practice so she will know exactly what to do if it ever happens again. That little boy in St Kitts-scary! Did he seem to have any parents around? I'm guessing he didn't, or at least not parents who were paying any attention to their kid!
E&B Posted April 24, 2016 #616 Share Posted April 24, 2016 Love your reviews!!! I especially love that you just took the noise from the galley in stride. I've read so many reviews of cove balconies where people seem to be so upset and demanding about the galley noise. Your daughter is adorable! I miss that age. Kfamilycruise Posted April 24, 2016 #618 Share Posted April 24, 2016 I haven't been to most of these ports and they look gorgeous! One question that I'm not sure I've seen people ask you -- what is your must-pack list for your cruises? You always seem so prepared! Thanks. Enjoying as always! Love Sakari's new mermaid outfit! Did he seem to have any parents around? I'm guessing he didn't, or at least not parents who were paying any attention to their kid! It looked like a nice place to stay. The place is huge! I'm guessing that the places to the (when standing on the beach and facing toward the resort) right must be the nicer and newer places. They were working on the places to the left and had construction guys working on the building to the left. It looked a lot smaller and older. As far as the view across the water to the port, you would have to stay on the "front" (the road side) to get a view of the ships. On the back side (where the beach is located) is a different view. The blue mermaid tail was my favorite too, but she picked out the orange and that's the only reason she got that the first time around. :D Blue was her second choice (which I'm really shocked she picked either color since purple is her favorite color). She has now informed me that she wants the entire collection. The monofin inserts into the tail from the bottom. There's a slice in the material and you have to put it in sideways and pull on it hard to get it up over the pointed part of the end of the tail. Then do the same with the other side. Inside you have 2 openings on the top of the monofin with a neoprene material that surrounds your foot and keeps it in there (instead of rubber like you get with regular fins. The only way to get your foot into it is to take down the entire outfit and open up the opening to slip your foot back and and I can't imagine doing that while swimming because the neoprene has to be pulled apart to get your foot down in it. It's pretty tight, which is a good thing because I assume that's what keeps your foot in there to begin with. It just didn't the day it happened to her. I'm not sure if she didn't have her foot all the way in or what happened. :( No the boy in St Kitts didn't seem to have any parents around. I never once seen him talk to anyone there (other than Sakari and the kids in the water) and there wasn't anyone that ever went up to him the entire day. That was another reason I assumed he was a local (that and his accent). Love your reviews!!! I especially love that you just took the noise from the galley in stride. Although there was someone else on the Breeze in those rooms (that I just read about on here) that went down to customer service to complain and they got upgraded to a spa suite???? Had I known....:D
leekristina25 Posted April 24, 2016 #621 Share Posted April 24, 2016 What were the late night options from last year on your funtimes? Just wondering. Like what were the times and what options did you have? I'm just wondering when it changed because I don't (off the top of my head) remember having these issues on the Pride or Dream (but then again, I could be getting some of my cruising mixed up and I'd have to check my funtimes as well). Thanks for the comments and glad you enjoy them. I actually carry around a small crossbody purse with me because I carry other things and a lanyard wouldn't work for me. When we are at the pool, I just throw them in my beach bag with all my other things. Thank you. I actually use a small cross body purse daily Bc I hate lugging around a big purse so this will work fine for me. I have got to the point that I don't carry a purse anymore, even at home. I just have a small wallet with the hand strap and it fits my cc's, d/l, money and even my cell will zip up in it. Rare mitsugirly Posted April 24, 2016 Author #624 Share Posted April 24, 2016 So off exploring. I headed down to the edge toward the left (if standing at the water and facing the resort). You could tell where the resort ended and another started from the rocks.
Rare mitsugirly Posted April 24, 2016 Author #625 Share Posted April 24, 2016 This was the resort next door. The hubby was wondering about the jet skis and I found this station...with no one working there. But yet we would see people out on the water with jet skis. This building was in between the two resorts, so I'm not really sure which resort it belonged to.
