Parking garage for the day

We will be going on the Dream next week. Plan on staying very near New Orleans but not downtown, prices are very expensive plus the added expense of parking is just too high at the hotels. I know it would be ideal if we did, but the prices are just too much and not worth it for our time frame.

We will plan on arriving at a hotel around 2 at the latest. So we only have mid afternoon into the evening of sat. I am looking for a parking garage we can use and then walk to where we want to go. My question is which parking garage would be most convenient for Bourbon St./ French Quarter area? I have looked at some parking garages online but wanted opinions of anybody who may have parked at some or who are familiar with the area. We have never been to New Orleans so unsure as to the proximity of these areas. We just want to get a glimpse of the area, look in some shops, get dinner, maybe pop into a bar/club for a few to hear some music. If the walking gets too much for him, he said he can go sit and listen to some music while my son and I walk around.

Also, my husband has some walking issues so that's why I'm trying to park as close as possible. I know there are trolleys available so may be an option. I would love to take one just to see some of the area. We used to just go places and "wing" it when we got there but with my husband walking slower and using a cane now, I try to have some sort of plan.

Thank you

Tina

Some people have been talking about Fulton Garage as an option. May look into it myself if I book the Triumph. Dont know anything about it other than what I read on here via Gulf Port departures thread

I'd park in one of these lots. They are on north peters street. Bourbon is 3 blocks to the left. You can see where north peters turns into Decatur. And you can see Jackson square at the top of the picture. The lot between Decatur/St. Louis and Decatur/Toulouse would probably be the best lot to minimize walking.
