Transportaton to Port of Galveston

Recommended Posts

Here is some information that I have rounded up for out of town cruiser's that need help with transportation to the Cruise Port.

Some of these options are cheap enough that you don't need to worry about which airport you fly into. Also note that people have told me that they have flown into HOUSTON the night before and then used these services on the day of the cruise to save over often high Galveston Hotel rates.

Thought that I would help out those that are traveling from out of the area. Next week I will do the Parking Options.

Port of Galveston Transportation

So you are flying into Houston Hobby or Bush Intercontinental and you want to get from there to either the ship or a hotel. You will also probably need a return trip as well. Your options are:

•Limo (Private Car Service, various levels)

•Shared Car or Shuttle Service (various levels)

•Cruise Line Transfers

•Taxi

•Car Rental

Houston Hobby-HOU is on the South Side of Houston (42.1 m), normally a 50-55 minute drive from the cruise terminals.

Houston Intercontinental (Bush)-IAH is on the North Side of Houston (70.1 m), normally an 80 minute ride from the cruise terminals, but this varies substantially on time and day. Plan your time accordingly.

Taxi fare round-trip from the airport to the Galveston cruise terminal can cost upwards of $250-300 from Bush Intercontinental Airport and $150-200 from Hobby Airport. (Rates vary depending on traffic.) That’s on the expensive side, but remember that usually up to four or five passengers can ride for that price. That makes the cost cheaper per person than the cruise line shuttles. Plus, with a taxi you don’t have to reserve ahead and you can leave whenever you are ready, instead of waiting on a shuttle to fill up.

Savings are usually available if you purchase round trips, are a senior, etc. be sure to ask what you qualify for.

Super Shuttle serves both Hobby and Intercontinental Airports. Known for their shuttle service, they have also added SUV and Private Car Service. Daughter used Enterprise car hire from IAH to Galveston two day rental and one way drop off $280 for SUV. Dropped Sunday morning but bit of panic to get taxi to ship as hadn't booked...told 1.5 hr wait. Managed to get John's Pink Taxi ...short wait 15-20 mins.

We had Alamo rental car that had to be returned to airport.so Saturdy before cruise took it back and used Dwayne Johnson's Txairport Transfers to return to Galveston...very reliable, punctual, polite, amenable.Cost $135 for 2 adults...but meant we wasted a whole morning.

Returning from Liberty of Seas, we all used John's Pink Taxi. Daughter had arranged with him when he dropped them off. Communications were fantastic. John was waiting when we exited immigration. He gave us a tour of NASA en route to IAH, provided information as we drove, was passionate about Galveston, and dropped us off at two different terminals. All for the princely sum of $160 (plus tip) for 4 adults and one child. John was a delight. I would not hesitate to recommend him and his wife Tate at Pink Taxis , Galveston

Was that a van that Johns had, we are a party of 6 and looking for service late April. We're coming in three days before our cruise. Very interested in his service. Thank's for any help you can give me.

If you need a hotel as well, the LaQuinta Houston hobby has a cruise package that picks you up from airport and next morning drives you to port of Galveston.

The enterprise car rental works well but I heard they stopped letting people drop off in Galveston, maybe they went back to allowing it.

I'm trying to find the LaQuinta that has a shuttle to the port but can't find it. Do you have any additional information?

Try this:

http://www.laquintahoustonhobbyairport.com/

On the front page on the left it talks about cruise packages. We stayed there in Oct. 2014 but did not use their shuttle. For two people, the cruise ship transfers were cheaper.

I just checked many of the options listed above. Here's what I found for HOU:

Cruise Connection is $50 pp, roundtrip, ONLY ON CRUISE DAYS. If you fly in the day before the cruise, you would need a hotel at the airport with a free shuttle.

RCCL from HOU is $64 pp, roundtrip, and picks up at the HOU airport baggage claim between 11 am - noon on embarkation day. This mean staying at a hotel near the airport if you fly in the day before; one with a free airport shuttle. Take the hotel shuttle over to the airport in the morning. For the extra $12 pp you know the ship won't leave without you.

Super Shuttle is $120 for the car, plus tip, for 2 people roundtrip.

La Quinta's cruise package is $250 plus tax for double occupancy. You will use the hotel's shuttle to get from the airport to the hotel. The shuttle will drop off at the airport after the cruise, NOT take you to the hotel. The hotel room alone is $100, so the transportation is $150 for 2 people.

Galveston Express is $120 pp, roundtrip.

Galveston Limo Service is $70 pp for seniors, roundtrip; $90 pp for non-seniors.

Renting a car: Budget is the cheapest going from HOU to Galveston for $78 plus gas. The car drop-off is at 10000 Emmett Lowry Parkway in Texas City, and is at Sears. We've done this before. You have to take a taxi from there to the cruise port in Galveston, which is about $26 one way.

Coming back Avis is $14 to HOU, plus the $26 taxi fare to the Emmett Lowry Parkway location.

Total cost is $143 plus gas.

There is no Uber available into Galveston.

There are lots of transportation options. This is what I am doing right now.

Just got in to Galveston for our Carnival Freedom cruise. Found a local taxi driver recommendation here on Cruise Critic. Contacted him before arrival and gave us great info about the Island. When we needed a ride, I called him and we were his next customer. When we wanted to get back to our hotel, called him and we were his next customer. PLEASE give him your business when on the Island. Who is he? Galvestonn Taxi Kent. His number: 409. 497. 5117.

I'll be using him to get us to the port as well. Can't give you any stronger recommendation than this.

We also used Galveston Limo to get from IAH to our Galveston hotel. No problems with that either. I used their Online special of $25 per person, each way.
