AMEX special offers (Royal Caribbean)

Recommended Posts

I have a Gold American Express card and check my on line account for new special offers every morning. This morning I had one for Royal Caribbean, spend $350 get a $75 credit on your AMEX account. I was very happy to add that one to my card. I think it expired end of June.

Says it has to be on Royalcaribbean.com reservations only. Probably won't work if TA puts $350 towards existing reservation

I just tried it through the cruise planner on the website I'll let you know what happens

Hmm . . . I have the offer, but our cruise is already paid for. We sail in nine days. I wonder if I could just take a ton of cash out at the casino and get over the number and still have it work. Five percent of $350 is still less than $75. :)

Bummer!....just checked my offers and not there...different AMEX cards must have different offers. Could have definitely used that!

It was on mine, but not my wife's , we just have the free one I think it's called blue, worth checking a spouses account even if they are just an authorized user

You need to be sure you use the correct card, I think it's the main card on the account. We tried using an offer once but charged with my husbands card and it didn't work. He's also on the account, but mine is the main card.

I usually use my Royal Caribbean card so I can get double points, but I have a cruise booked for September so I'll just have the $350 applied to final payment first. Hope it works ok.

Authorized users have an entirely different set of offers on AmEx. Usually they are similar, but yes, you need to add them to the correct card.

I have two authorized users on the account, each with a separate sign in, logged into all of them and added it to each card separately, and will see if they honor it on each separate card, making separate purchases on each. this has worked for me on previous offers, but none were for as much as $75 so I'd be impressed if it worked.

Some relevant fine print

Offer valid for qualifying reservations between 5/12/16 and 6/28/16. Includes spend for booking directly via royalcaribbean.com, phone, or through travel agents. Excludes spend on board, gift cards/certificates, shore excursions, air/ground transportation, cruise insurance, group reservations and weddings and other occasions.

Nothing on mine, either. Two months ago I did receive an offer for Carnival, $75 credit on a $250 charge, plus one for NCL that I didn't really look at. We were offered a free Carnival cruise from the casino, had to pay only port fees/taxes and we always get insurance, so we did take advantage of that one. It looks like AmEx is alternating cruise lines with the offers - I hope so.

I just used it on my American Express Blue Sky card. I received a confirmation email from American Express within minutes.

Dear GAIL,

We appreciate you using your Amex Offer at ROYAL CARIBBEAN. Look out for a $75.00 statement credit, which will automatically be applied to your statement if your purchase meets the offer terms

Normally i wouldn't make any additional payments till final payment, but our next cruise isn't for 14 months, so I'll make a payment before the offer expires using the AmEx. 75 backk (plus the 1% from the normal purchase) is much much better than the 2% card I usually put RCI purchases on.

What I need to figure out is if I can use the offer on both the primary and authorized user cards. It says one offer per online account, but technically they are different logins for each card.

I'm pretty sure it's one offer per account number.

I went online and applied $350 to my September cruise (before final payment) and also received the email from AMEX saying I would receive the $75 credit shortly, so it did work for just making a payment.

It was reported on the Celebrity board months ago that some people who did not received the offer called AMEX and were successful having AMEX add the offer to their account, so I'm not sure it would work to call but could be worth a try.
