Thanks....

Well, more funky news today:rolleyes:......get this, my insurance company

will not allow the actual GLEEVAC....but they will allow a generic...BUT

the drug company will not allow the generic:(....so here we go again.

I even stopped by the Cancer Center after work today but the gal who

normally helps me was out.....I ended up speaking with the Administrator

and my Dr was there too.......

Tomorrow is another day and she said we would find out more then.....

The Dr said if it has not be resolved by end of the week he can give me

a 2 week supply of another drug from his office.

Maybe tomorrow I will have some better news......

Hi Lois,

I'm so sorry that in addition to the stress & worry of your diagnosis you have to go through hoops just to try & get the right medication.

I wish I had great advice or wise words for you, but I don't... just wanted you to know I'm thinking about you & rooting for you from the sidelines. :)

I hate to hear anyone going through these ridiculous hoops for a necessary medication. We had the same back and forth between the makers of Embrel and our BC/BS when my husband's analysing spondylitis flared badly a few years back. He was tearing his hair out over the very subsidized injectable the company sent him and then get hit with the "normal" copay two weeks later. Wine helps until the feuding parties finally get their you know what in order. Do not stress over it. Sooner or later they will figure it out.

Today i found out my insurance company will not approve my drug as well. Next step is to send a request for free meds from the manufacturer (which they will most likely approve).

On another fun note they also admitted me today. I went on vacation for a week and apparently ran myself down to empty. So getting a tune up (blood, potassium and other fluids) while monitoring my heart to make sure it's not acting up and get a bad cough under control with the help of a little oxygen.

Lois and Sherilyn, so sorry you are both going through these tough

times. Lois I don't know if it helps, but when my DH had cancer and getting his medications approved, etc. etc, was really a difficult time, but I just kept calling and following up on it, we did get it approved, it did take a letter from the oncologist to the company, but we did get it, they would Fed ex it yo our house then we would take it to the Dr. office, for some reason that made a difference, we did that for 2 years ( we did have to renew after the first year) so just keep on trying to get the meds. But I do understand that it is really frustrating, hang in there. We are thinking of you.

Sherilyn, sorry that you are going through these difficult times also, hope that you get all this sorted out soon, and get the meds you need and get on the road to recovery soon. Keep fighting, we are thinking of you.

Prayers for both of you

Cori

Hi Cori, thanks for the good wishes.

I feel like all I do is complain but I thought things were going to be

better as of yesterday......that is what I get for thinking:rolleyes:

The Dr changed the meds to one that is approved by my insurance

company AND is on the co pay plan.....the nurse said she got the

approval yesterday and so I thought the Specialty Pharmacy was

going to have everything.....I never heard from them this morning

so I called them......they never received the freakin script:eek::mad::(

for the new meds.....I even called the Dr's office but never heard back.

I am going to follow up again tomorrow......

The new one is called Tasignia......

Sherilyn, hope you are doing ok........my venting probably sounds

petty but it feels better than crying about it all the time.

Nothing pretty at all worth what you're going through. The whole process is can be so overwhelming and frustrating. You get some of the worst news in your life and then on top of that the financial side also attacks. It's just pure inanity. Just imagine if you didn't have good insurance... i see a lot of purple struggle because they were not prepared for something like this. Single parents of young children with no family around... job that doesn't offer good benefits or fmla... so they are worrying about their children and jobs and income on top of fighting a serious illness.

They released me back home late last night but now my leg is swollen from edema. So I'm waiting for that to go down and we pushed radiation out to not start until next Friday now.

Hi.....I just keep wondering who the he$$ is responsible for getting the

prescription correctly to the right place with the correct information:rolleyes:

The Dr had told me if things were not resolved by the end of the week

(which is TODAY).....he would give me 2 weeks worth of samples......

well, I will be calling his office again:eek: and maybe I can get an

answer.

Hope your leg gets better.

Hi girls.....again, thanks for listening:).......I got my meds today.

(with more issues even yesterday:rolleyes:) but at least I have them now.

They shipped out UPS overnight. I will be speaking with the Dr's office

about this and hoping someone at his office can be an advocate for me.

But I will definitely be the one calling again to make sure about my

next shipment (seems like I spoke with someone every other day) without

any positive replies except for yesterday.

Oh...the Co pay card and insurance covered it.......I didn't pay anything.

The woman at the drug company said this card expires on Sept 1st.....I almost

wanted to yell at that point:(....I need to call them again about if it is going to

be extended.....this is where I was hoping the Dr's office would be helping me........

(We shall see).

Sherilyn, I am thinking of you:)

Lois - I continue to read all these posts and keep you in my thoughts and prayers ..... I'm so sorry about what you are going through with the insurance. I retired and no longer have any insurance, so I do understand the frustrations with doctors, meds, etc. All the best. Jan

Hi Jan:).....you have Medicare though, right?......or now you have no insurance at all?

Thanks for the good thoughts.:)

Unfortunately no medicare ... have to wait another year before I qualify. In order to get insurance for both my DH & myself it was going to cost $24,000 per year and then there was a $6,000 deductible per person. It is so frustrating. I have 5 meds I take per day and it used to cost $300 for a 90 day supply ... now that I don't have insurance it now costs me $15.00 for a 90 day supply .... I am so frustrated with the medical profession!!!

Good thoughts to you! Jan:)

Hi Jan:).....oh my................

I have this med for one month........now that I have it I am going to

have to call the drug company and pharmacy again about the next

set:rolleyes:.....(not yet) but after what just happened I am not sure

the social worker at the Dr's office will step up for me or not.

Maybe the 2nd go round will be smoother......one can only hope.

Sherilyn, how are you doing? I got a bit a nauseous the last few days

and the Dr prescribed me something....a little pill that is too long to

spell:eek:....it seems to have helped.

Cynthia, your last post is so true.....the red tape, BS for getting the meds?

I also hope next month's goes smoother.

Hi, Lois,

Just a quick off topic question. Do you not cruise Celebrity anymore? I don't see you posting over there.

Back on topic.

I'm following your struggles and wishing you better health in the future.

Prayers going your way.:)

Hi:)....this is the first year in many that no, I did not sail with Celebrity.

I went on a fabulous River Cruise out of Amsterdam in April and my sister

and I are booked on Royal's Serenade of the Seas to New England in October.

Not saying I won't sail with X again......maybe. As for not posting over

there? I get very tired of that forum (even when I am sailing with them).

Thanks for the good wishes.

Sorry i haven't been responding much. This cough is really kicking my but. Yesterday i went and saw my oncologist. When my husband left the room to get something i was surprised as he quickly closed the door and asked me how i was really doing. It's sweet how they are always looking out for me... they really care. I think he just wanted to make sure I wasn't hanging on because i felt obligation to my husband or out of guilt. I keep going back and forth in if i want more treatment or not. I finally committed to moving forward on the new chemo since i need weekly transfusions for potassium at this point.

I'm starting radiation on Friday for my knee cap after many delays. Hopefully that doesn't cause me too much fatigue.

Sometimes I get so tired of people arguing or being rude on CC. I also wonder about discord in general in the US and beyond. What is wrong with the world?:(

Then I come to this thread to see the love, compassion, and goodness that restores my faith in mankind.:) Sherilyn, you are an inspiration to us all. The help you are able to give Lois is priceless although unfortunate how you've come by your knowledge.

Lois, I'm wishing only the best for you and the same for Sherilyn. 🌞
