OCruisers Posted August 10, 2016 #1 Posted August 10, 2016 Back when we first started having port stops in Costa Maya, the little fishing village was spelled Majahaul for shore excursions with cruise ships and in guide books. Now, seems the spelling has changed to Mahahaul ... LuLu
Rare crewsweeper Posted August 10, 2016 #2 Posted August 10, 2016 I think the change was made a few years back when they started to expand the area around the cruise port. Mahahual is the common spelling now, but Majahual is the original (and Spanish pronunciation) form.
c-leg5 Posted August 10, 2016 #3 Posted August 10, 2016 An interesting article from local newsletter, that doesn't really clarify anything! http://www.mayanbeachgarden.com/Mahajual.html
OCruisers Posted August 10, 2016 Author #4 Posted August 10, 2016 Thanks to you both. Guess I'd better begin spelling it Mahahaul. LuLu
