Empress of the Seas - I'm headed BACK!!

As many of you know or might have seen Royal Caribbean had a Social Media Takeover cruise on board Empress of the Seas July 26th weekend. I was on board and had such a great time, I've decided to go back. Today, I've booked not one, but TWO sailing!

 

Sept 12th - 5 Day

Oct 6th - 4 Day

 

My purpose for posting this is, I've seen many negative reviews about the Empress. However, Royal Caribbean has really turned this ship around and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway. :D

We booked Halloween Oct 29. And are hoping to change our Navigator Nov 23. To the Empress before final payment, If they don't raise the prices to much.

LOVED Empress. I know things were a bit out of whack at first, but we went in June and really had a great time. It is a beautiful ship. Does it have the latest bells and whistles, NOPE, but that was one of the things we really found charming about it.

So how was Voom on Empress? I'm debating whether to rely on it or get my usual ATT cruise package.

After talking with their CD Carlos about Cuba, it sounds like she is not going until December. So I would think we will see November open up shortly with 4/5 nights to Cozumel/Nassau/Key West/Coco Cay.

The VOOM worked fine once it was connected. However, if you put your device down for more than a minute it would disconnect. So, you are constantly signing back again. This was my experience on a "promo code" access, I'll be doing user name method next time so maybe it's better.

It was like that on Allure too. It gets frustrating. You can stop it by switching your phone screen to not shut off automatically. But then battery life is affected.

 

I was told its to keep the network from getting overloaded by too many people on at once (and not using it).

Have you sailed on Empress before?

We have 3 in a row booked on the Navigator. 4 nighter Nov 23, 7 nighter No 27,and a 5 nighter Dec 4. The first one (4 nighter) is higher in price than both of the following sails. So I hoping to replace it with a 5 nighter on the Empress and just move up the pier On Saturday Nov 27 to the Navigator. If the sail dates work out right.

We sailed on the Empress July 23 and had a great time. The only drawback was the air conditioning in the casino, and somewhat in our cabin.

We are going back on the Empress on Oct 29 for a 5 nighter.

I always get Voom + Surf. I need to try just Voom to compare The differences if there really are any.

I might get voom for my upcoming Oasis sailing to scope, but I'm a bit back and forth - part of me whats to be completely disconnected, but another part of me wants to share the fun lol

You could go first 2-3 days without VOOM and just buy it pro-rated for remaining days?

probably would be the same price then as the 30% off for the whole 7 days. But I think if I get it, I will get the surf+stream. I have been watching some cruise scopers, and the quality has not been overly spectacular. certainly watchable, but Voom Surf probably would be really bad in terms of quality.
