Some bad news dear chums (well for us), Hayden and Michele, who recently married and act as Club Director and Activities Director have decided to "stay on land" (meaning they have left SD).

Aaaaaahh !!!

Anyone who knows them, know they are a beautiful couple, kind, friendly and easy going and we wish them the best.

But we will miss them.

Bigly.

Well that's really cleared things up !

Oh Hum hates being out of the loop.

Martinis up Trump Tower with you old chum would be great, even better with the Contessa and Raggy.

Hum will check it (Atlas Shrugged) out, if you guys think it's that good.

Read "The Fountainhead" first. I can predict which character in that you will self-identify with, given your previous occupation and your, uummm..., self-confidence.

So now it's two books to read !

Raggy, you just can't go round dropping these innuendos about Hum when Hum is wholly ignorant of the characters.

Most cruel.

Demonstrating your sophistication and Hum's ignorance.

Quite brilliant actually.

In any novel Hum always identifies with the mis-understood creative genius and all round good guy (devilishly handsome of course with impeccable manners and of noble birth) living in a world of cretins (nay, never chums here on this wonderful thread) and how he suffers wishing to enlighten them out of ignorance, superstition, archaic values......you get the drift.

Yes, Hum, Obama should (and will) attend Castro's funeral ... not as an homage to the brutal dictator

but as an olive branch of hope to the people of Cuba that better years are ahead. If not that, just

to piss off the Republicans.

It is folly to think, however, that much improvement in the area of human rights will occur as long as

Raul remains in power. You see, dictators derive their longevity by denying such basic rights coupled

with firm control of the military establishment.

While we wait for modest change, Cubans, as you say, are among the best educated in the world and

have a superior medical system. That should give pause for thought to their neighbors in the north.

Well seeing as a heck of a lot of Hum’s (partial), very partial) rudimentary (more “rude” than “mentary”) understanding of the American political system, historic US political figures, mood of the country and a “pinch” of (restrained and informed) personal opinion came from YOU !!!

Whilst I kneeled before you in rapt attention to your “Teachings” from the Master, then Hum must simply reflect back any plaudits to your good self.

You taught Hum all Hum knows and all Hum is capable of understanding (a mere fraction of your immense US political knowledge) which Hum found both fascinating and immensely interesting.

And did Hum ever thank you for these “pearls” ?

Hum thinks not.

Oh just where is the gratitude from your disrespectful, un-worthy student ?

Allow Hum to take this opportunity to do so now, dearest chum.

A big thanks.

Hum had not wished to make previous reference to your benevolent and valued guidance on US politics in case you were “tarred with the same brush” should others not be so tolerant of Hum’s miserable offering of mere opinion.

Imagine this dear chums; most every day Hum would entreat Commander Courageous to explain this and that and offer an opinion, given by him with much consideration and balance.

Nigh on every morning !!!

Let that be a lesson to you all.

Never display any insight and knowledge into any subject that Hum is interested in.

He will “hound you” mercilessly.

And very occasionally robustly challenge points not clear tooth dullard and slow of mind.

The poor chap just wanted a peaceful vacation on SD.

Not with Hum.

Hum’s a Rottweiler for knowledge (on the few subjects that remain of interest to Hum in this "vale of tears").

Ruff, ruff (bites too: Hum not the Commander)

Talking of dogs and discussing US politics.

Hum is also very grateful for the contribution by COCOYOTE too.

Thank you kind chum.

(The dog reference to COCOYOTE is only because of his love of these wonderful creatures that add a boon to our lives; though with Hum, it’s vino (that adds a boon !Don’t have to take wine for a walk or “scooop up” after them !!).

Hum is also indebted to Jim for his “take” on matters which is mostly hugely entertaining and very irreverent and would get both of us chucked off Cruise critic in an instant if it were ever to be shared !!!

Let’s just say, it calls for robustness and is not suitable for the easily offended…..no make that prone to offence…..no, in fact it is OFFENSIVE !!!

But Hillary-ous.

HaHa. Those are being shipped from where we live......Westworld. :D

Now Jim, I don't think you can mail assault rifles to England. Perhaps a couple of boxes of ammo for ho-hum's Boer War era Webley revolver would do, as stocking stuffers. Goodness knows, he can surely use the target practice, seeing how often he is off the mark...

U.S. policy towards Cuba has, until Obama, followed the wishes of those Cubans that escaped the socialist paradise. Those were the folks in Florida dancing in the streets at the news of Castro's death.

Those same Cuban-Americans got Trump elected by delivering Florida for him. He will follow their wishes re Cuba.

Oh the sheer hypocrisy and the faux moral outrage to attempt to sustain the unsustainable position regarding US relations to Cuba which is wholly inconsistent with:

- relations with CHINA (where human rights abuses are greater)

- a poor relationship to Mexicans but supporting Cubans that have come to the US

- lack of diplomacy with Cuba but a reasonable one with Vietnam (because they trade with the US)

Now it seems even Obama will not send anyone to Castro's funeral.

US diplomacy !

Huh !

Juvenile !

Take a lesson from China.

Where the US is indifferent, China steps in.

And it happens, time and time again now.

Nobody will bother with this country and who actually suffers ?

The common people.

And why is it particularly important for the US to do something ?

Because they are neighbours !

And like it or not, Castro was a hero to many in South America.

Snubbing him, has reverberations far beyond Cuba.

So now the US snubs a whole continent !

Good going.

The US is also indifferent to Africa.

You are running out of continents.

The world needs real leaders not populist echo chambers and reactionary "shoot from the lip" bombasts who are also apparently beholden to those allegedly promising votes in exchange for doing their narrow vision bidding (though frankly Hum dis-believes the claim).

The President of another "tin pot" country (Colombia) can show a mighty country how to work for the common good of ALL, reaching out across great division to heal a country beset by guerrilla war for decades.

Will the US learn to be diplomatic ?

Threats seem the only option to this proud to be isolationist super-power.

And yet the US is perhaps the most generous nation in the world.

The US get it so wrong (on the world stage) and so very right (in its less acknowledged charitable nature which help the real people).

Canada is also a very generous nation (as are the Irish).

So long as US relations improve with the UK (and decline with France and especially Germany) then in Hum's "Machiavellian hat" and as a narrow minded small islander, Hum should be happy (but essentially Hum's a "what's good for all" kind of dreamer.....).

Hum's spokesman says it all.

Go Jack !

Dearest chums, forgive Hum for this pompous rant (Hum's psychiatrist says it does him good !).

Well, Obama surprised me! But why couldn't I have seen it coming?

Our foreign policy today is made on the fly. We have no consistent long term objectives, save attempting to transplant our form of government in countries that cannot and will not abide it.

Syria, Israel, Russia, China, and the real sleeper in the wings, North Korea, who have as their stated

objective to obliterate us. We draw "a line in the sand", then walk away; give billions to the arch enemy

of a country that is suppose to be one of our closest allies; turn the other cheek when Russia invades

its neighbors; allow to stand trade policies that steal thousands of our jobs offshore while turning the other cheek to human rights abuses that enslave millions; and fail to engage a country who feels outside the international community, is ruled by a psychopath, and who sees as their salvation becoming

a major nuclear power on the world stage.

Yes, Mr. Trump, I can only wish you every success because the stakes are getting higher every

day.

Isn't chum the cut up pieces of fish used for bait?

Well dear "stinky fish bait" (if you prefer the US interpretation of a former English "slang" word).

"Chum" was originally created in Great Britain many, many years before the United States was even a "twinkle in the eye" of settlers (and mainly from Britain: the "oddballs" we used to call them. Couldn't wait to get rid of 'me if the truth be told).

The term is slang for a room-mate, probably short for chamber fellow when people shared rooms whom over time became good friends (no, not in that way ! Good heavens, your minds are sewers !).

Some years later, the term chum had devolved in the US (as much did when the British decided there was no hope and left the US shores) to a term indeed meaning "Refuse from fish, especially that remaining after oil has been expressed".

Hum can reveal that the cause of the alteration of the term by the American people (who ruined a heck of a lot more besides and since the British left) was as a result of altercations amongst American chamber fellows (no surprise there) which had died due to violence at one another's hands.

The former chamber fellow was murdered and chopped up and thrown in the sea to conceal the deadly deed.

This attracted various fish and the former friendly, benign, English slang word "chum" henceforth became referred to as fish bait by American evil doers.

People's of America.

When a Brit uses the friendly term "chum" it nowadays refers to a close personal friend NOT ruddy fish bait !

The closest equivalent term employed in the US is probably "buddy" but Hum chooses "chum" as it is more respectful and because Hum is quintessentially English.

Interestingly, "Buddy" also had its origination from English as a North American alteration of the word brother, or a variant of butty.

"Butty" is a Northern English slang word for a sandwich (also a British invention: Earl of Sandwich).

So "Buddy" is a cross between a friendly term "brother" and some cheap eat !

How clever the Yanks are (at ruining perfectly good English).

"Have a nice day y'all"

And they say I'm pedantic. You are becoming more professorial than I, pal. By the way, if I might add, your definition of "chum" likely originated at Oxford. And Jim's suggestion of "pal" has a Romany origin, meaning "brother."

Chum is still used in the US to mean friend, but typically often as "old chum", usually before asking to borrow money (that will not be paid back), e.g. "Hey old chum, can you spot me a fiver for a brewsky?". Jim is very facile with variations of this usage.

Hum will be honest, Hum also had his suspicions.

Appreciate the corroboration.

And to think, all this time he has simply been "grooming" us to sting us for a fiver !

Now he has been thwarted, don't be surprised to see him move on to the Crystal forum.

"Rich pickings" Hum's sure.

Hmmm.......thinking about it, we could just buy him a drink, maybe a few drinks even, in fact Hum would be delighted to and that goes for you too "old chum".

Aha !

Unfortunately Hum has left is wallet behind, could you do the honours this time, old chum, Hum promises to pay you back soon old chum.

Reports are surfacing from "sources" in and around Poshland that a lot of activity has been witnessed lately involving limos coming and going with their blacked out windows and shadowy occupants.

Old Mrs Goggins in the Post Office says demand for "choooin' guumm" and Firearms Weekly have rocketed. All proof it seems that after Sir Nigel Farage turned down the opportunity to be UK Ambassador to the good ol' USofA, as promoted by The Donald, a certain other man of the world, a discrete, suave, sophisticated, diplomatic and wordly aware doyen of Poshland is being sounded out...No, not his gardener or butler or sommelier...Sir Ho himself!

It appears negotiations of terms is becoming a lengthy process. Blondie is all for it...imagine Fifth Avenue on the doorstep...she can add glamour and show the New York "broads" what being a real lady is all about.

Sir Ho's suggestion that he be provided with an ambassadorial yacht has caused a few splutters in the gin at Whitehall. The grand plan would be to create a roving role, including visiting many Caribbean islands to drum up business for post Brexit Blighty plus an annual return to the Capital by sailing up the Thames welcomed by a full flotilla of the military fleet.

"It's not very large, smaller and cheaper to run than Britannia you know, will save a fortune on my first class air travel and she can be moored in the QM2 dock when she herself is not in town..."

What's not to like?
