RIP Captains club coupons

I have just read about captains club coupons being somehow accessed through your room card on board. Apparently this is on trial on Constellation and Equinox. I'd be interested to know how this works for things like laundry and dry cleaning.....is it based on your room number.

Anyone experienced this?

Although I haven't cruised on RC in years, I understand that the Crown & Anchor perks have been handled this way, for some time. Folks I've talked to mostly liked it -- no wasted time tearing out coupons, or running back to your cabin to find them. It will be interesting to see how X's Captain's Club implements this change.

More than two years ago I was told by a HD that RCL had the technology and that it was just a matter of time and cost considerations. New equipment needs to be installed before the system can be employed. Suspect that it will go fleet wide shortly after the results from the test ships is completed. Guess this will kill the Ebay market for Celebrity loyalty coupons.

We have just used our cabin card for our Crown & Anchor benefits the last 2 Royal cruises. Kinda nice in that you don't lose or forget to bring the coupon. You do have to remember the benefit1. :) I think they did have a print out of the benefits for our level.

I hope the "coupons" are in fact electronically loaded onto the cruise cards, because, in my opinion, clipping coupons shouldn't be part of the "modern luxury" experience from a line of the caliber hat Celebrity touts/claims they are.....

Stupid question- how do you know what "coupons" are loaded on your card if you don't have physical coupons?

I would hope that you could view them on the TV....listed as a part of "my account"??

I would think it would be like RCCL: You get a one page sheet in your stateroom which lists all the benefits.

So much better than clipping coupons....and green too, Hopefully they implement it fleetwide

We just sailed as Diamond members on RC / Anthem of the Seas ( September 2016 ) and every perk was on our Sea Pass. It was excellent!!

This is not a new system. New perhaps to Celebrity, but not a new system. It appears from reports that they are testing the program now and working out the bugs. It does make it easier for the passenger, but it also is a long term cost saving to Celebrity. No physical coupons means a saving to printing and distribution costs. It makes it difficult if not impossible to pass benefits to none eligible passengers. It prevents the saving of unused coupons for future cruises. It prevents the giving or selling unused coupons to those not entitled to use them. There have been many threads on each of these topics. I guess that there will be even more threads on "What coupon benefits are on my card". I would also guess, or hope that Celebrity would indicate what each Captain's Club level should receive.

Our last cruise was a back to back. After week 1 we had enough points to bump from Classic to Select. I could never find the Captain's Club rep, finally asked the Concierge if I needed to do anything. "No problems" she said. "She tracks those issues for B2B cruisers [and we were the only ones on board] and you will be Select next week." Our new key cards said Classic. Our coupons were for Classic. After a total of about 2 hours of back and forth with Guest Relations and waiting for the CC rep to show up, we were updated to Select in the system, we got new coupons and I was able to get the requisite 25% vs 10% discount on my internet. Which is the only reason I cared.

If/when they start loading the "coupons" onto the keycard, I do hope they have some system where you can verify that the benefits you are expecting are actually there. Maybe a free-standing terminal in the guest relations area? Swipe your card to see your benefits?

The benefits terminal is an excellent idea and I hope they consider it. I was in a similar situation when I moved up to the next level. I called Captain's Club and they went over my points. They informed the ship that I would be at the next level on the next cruise. Suggest that at least at the higher levels, Elite+ and Zenith, people do the same.

What would be really nice is if when you purchased an item for which you had a coupon, the Celebrity employee tells you that there's a coupon available and asks if you want to use it - or in the alternative, the system automatically applies it.

On our recent Millennium cruise, our drink coupons were provided in an envelope pre cut and stapled together by date. Handy for us, but someone must have been busy doing all the clipping and stapling! There were over 600 Elite and Elite + on board.

Loading the coupons onto cruise cards makes a lot of sense as well as saving paper. Now if they would only stop the excessive amount of paper generated by the spa, shops and art auctions they could really achieve a greener environment.

I can understand most of them not needing a physical coupon, but how do you do, say, a match play in the casino? Just tell the dealer you're doing it?

We are on the Equinox now, and just used our match play at the casino today. It's a bit of a process. You have to tell the dealer you would like to use the match play benefits. The dealer then advises a floor manager, who takes your key cards, verifies how many match plays you have, prints out receipts for each match play for you to sign, then gives you coupons to use. Hope this helps!

We just completed a cruise on the Summit and the welcome letter said there would be coupons. Initially, there were no coupons for most of us and the reason given was that most people had the beverage package. I don't know whether the people without beverage packages got coupons or had it attached to their cards.

A day or two into the cruise, they were passing out coupons to the classic beverage package holders because some of the Captain's Club drinks were not included in the classic package.

They still had a nice cocktail hour with hors dourves in the Revelations Lounge.

On our recent Royal sailings after the switch to electronic there were no match play coupons. Hope X doesn't ditch them as well. Last sailing dw hit on 6 of 8.
