Luvmyrotti Posted January 31, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2017 We leave on the Crown for a B2B in the Caribbean in just over six weeks. Our passports expire in June 2017. I know we can travel with a birth certificate and state-issued photo ID as back up, but I may just bite the bullet and send our passports off for renewal. Has anyone renewed their passport recently and can share the wait-time for it to be returned?
CruiserBruce Posted January 31, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2017 As this has nothing to do with Princess, do a search on the "Ask a Question" or "First Time Cruisers" board. You will see several threads discussing turn around times as being very good- around 3 weeks. At least until the inauguration...

As you can see, we're leaving in two months. We just sent ours in fo renewal on January 17th. I'm expecting them back any day now.

carefreebee Posted January 31, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 31, 2017 It was right at 3 weeks for me. However, my husband's photo was rejected but once he resubmitted a new photo, it took 10 days for his new passport to arrive.

Rare grouchomarx Posted January 31, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 31, 2017 Just got mine back yesterday, I paid the extra for expedited processing and express mail delivery, it took about 2 1/2 weeks. Well worth the money as I'm traveling in March and my old passport expired in July this year.

Diver2014 Posted January 31, 2017 #13 Share Posted January 31, 2017 Mine took 3 weeks....rejected first time because of non allowed photo (have them taken by a professional....CVS Pharmacy did mine and they were allowed). They're real picky about the size and background of the photo. We lived in Miami and by mail was a whole lot faster than waiting in the huge line at the passport office downtown. ggprincess2004 Posted January 31, 2017 #14 Share Posted January 31, 2017 DH used expedited renewal as we had to squeeze it in between travel plans. 8 days.
getoutandlive Posted January 31, 2017 #15 Share Posted January 31, 2017 Ours wasn't a renewal, we had to get one for our son, it came back in just shy of 3 weeks. Someone mentioned it above, Costco is a GREAT place for photos, you get 2 sets for something like $4. Can't beat it.
Rare 5:00_Somewhere Posted January 31, 2017 #16 Share Posted January 31, 2017 Yup, another 2 weeker here. I sent mine in just before the New Year and had it back in 2 weeks. I was shocked it came that quickly. Good luck, and enjoy your cruise.

Nashna Posted January 31, 2017 #24 Share Posted January 31, 2017 DO NOT USE A COMMERCIAL PHOTO SHOP FOR YOUR US PASSPORT PHOTOS. Make an appointment and have everything done at your local Post Office. They charge a small fee for the photo and I have never heard of their photos being rejected by the US State Department. They will also process your application and ship it out for you. Be sure you make an appointment as most offices do not handle walk-ins. Just go to USPS to determine where you need to apply as not every post office is authorized to handle passports. The whole process took me 13 days.
