motherchic Posted February 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2017 I want to purchase a large waxed encased wheel of Gouda. Does anyone know of a store that is closest to port where one can be purchased?
gtaylor Posted February 21, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 21, 2017 I have read here that there is a shop right at the Cruise Facility that sells such, but in any event, Sangs Supermarket is on the way into town. Across the street when you get to the gas station. gary

Karysa Posted March 3, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 3, 2017 Amsterdam cheese and liquor store is lovely and has lots of choices. This would be my recommendation. It's at DOC Maarten beside Chesterfields restaurant. It's on the walk to town so it's very near the port.

I have stopped here several times but have not actually bought any of the cheeses. It is a short walk from the cruise port. Upon leaving the port take a left. According to Google Maps it is only 450 meters, which seems about right. The store is also on your left.
Cruzoholic Posted March 4, 2017 #7 Share Posted March 4, 2017 Last year Sangs was considerably more expensive for cheese but larger selection

wonlife64 Posted March 5, 2017 #10 Share Posted March 5, 2017 do you know, if at the Amsterdam cheese shop, if they sell the cheese wheels of Gouda encased in wax? Thats what I want. No problems with going through customs I would have to believe it is encased in wax. It looks like it from the pictures I have seen. They know much of their business is from tourists off the cruise ships. If you read the reviews on TripAdvisor it sounds like many people buy to bring back home.
