Some Thoughts For First Time Crystal Cruisers

Recommended Posts

Keith-

Wasn't there a "Share the experience " post at one time?

Nancy

There were several threads over the years but Crystal stopped the Share the Experience (STEX) in mid 2016 and to date have not announced a replacement for it

Wow! Thanks for a great post! My husband and I are considering the new Crystal Cruise out of New Orleans in 2018 and it would be our first time on Crystal. We've always wanted to go on one. Thank you for the great information!

Best,

Chicot

I hope this is the right thread to post this question...

Regarding the Vintage Room (not a private booking), how frequently is this offered, 1x per week, daily, 1x voyage? Is it something that we can wait to book on-board or is it something we should pre-book?

We are on the NWP voyage and had thought about making a reservation. If it's offered multiple times during the voyage, we might defer to later in the trip rather than jumping at the first and maybe only opportunity. All things being equal, we would rather book it for later in the trip rather than in the first few days on-board particularly with the 48 hour cancellation policy.

TIA,

Paul

Paul, the number of times it is offered on a voyage depends on the length of the voyage and the overall demand.

On NWP it will be offered many times as we know from last year. As soon as you board just sing up for it. You might want to call the operator and ask for the Head Sommelier to talk it through or stop by the Bistro in the morning where you might find him. I just call for the convenience of it.

Thanks. Sorry to have missed the opportunity, but glad not to have lost my memory ( entirely).

Can one register for a Crystal email address prior to departure?

This one I am not sure about as I don't use a Crystal E Mail address. Not sure if they are still available but when they were you were just assigned one and no registration was required.

Please note that each guest received one hour of complimentary internet per day of their voyage and that all hours are provided on day one of your voyage. As an example if the voyage is 10 days the day you board you receive 10 hours of complimentary internet which can be used for access to the internet including access to ones own personal e-mail address.

Thanks, Keith. Crystal email can be accessed without depleting internet minutes/hours, correct?

Yes, it didn't use the internet minutes.

I am just not sure whether or not it is still offered but I suspect someone will know for sure and post. :)

Thanks, Keith. Just found out from Crystal, the emails are pre-assigned and on our docs (which we have yet to receive).

You are welcome. I remember that is the way they used to do it but just couldn't remember if that was still done. Glad you were able to confirm that. :)

I don't believe Crystal pre-assigns a crystal email address anymore.

I'm sailing in a few days and there is no crystal email address on the docs. I am not new to sailing Crystal and can tell you crystal use to do this. My last sailing was a year ago and I don't recall if crystal still provided the address.

As already noted, you will receive an hour of complementary Internet for each day you sail and will get all of those hours upfront. I have never used the Crystal assigned email and have been sailing with Crystal regularly since 2004.

Thanks, Nancy. Crystal told me email address are assigned as [firstname lastname lastdigitofcruise#]. For Johnny Cruiser on 7312 it would be johnnycruiser2@crystalcruises.com. Don't know what they do if two people have the same name.

You're welcome.

Yes, that is how they have always been assigned in the past. I believe whoever you spoke with at crystal could be incorrect as I don't believe crystal is currently providing a crystal email address anymore. Sometimes the crystal folks on land don't always have the most current info. This would not be the first time.

Hey, I could be wrong but there is no crystal email address on the docs for myself and my husband. The docs were generated in early May. Perhaps someone else who currently has their docs can chime in.

Keith, thank you so much for your very comprehensive review of Crystal for First Time Cruisers. You have provided so much great information. Wish I had more words than just THANK YOU!!!

It appears that Crystal will encourages a 'No Casual' attire after a certain point in time (ie shorts / trunks / bikini's). Would this mean that the pools are closed earlier than on other cruise lines? We have been known to visit pools / hot tubs later in the evening, wondering if this is possible on Crystal.

In the evening they do have an attire that is recommended but that is for people who are using the public areas inside the ship (excluding areas such as the fitness center).

You can use the pool, or other outside facilities and be in casual attire and just go directly from those areas to your guest deck and room to change.

Thanks Keith, I knew you would have the answer. I do admit, on the other lines, we would eat dinner and immediately go back to to the cabin to change into casual clothes. We have both figured that for an exceptional time we can bypass being overly comfortable and act more like grown ups.

Hi, We are contemplating a cruise next summer to Alaska with our three kids and their significant others. All of the kiddos are in their 20's and they range from 23-29. We traveled to Alaska in 2007 and are looking forward to all the stops once again. This would be our first time aboard a Crystal cruise line and my question is are there any after dinner things for that age group to enjoy? Again, we just are not familiar with this cruise line and other than the one time on Celebrity and about 10 times on Royal Caribbean this would be a new ship format for us. Your thoughts?

Our children and their spouses ages are now 30 to 35 but we have had them all on Crystal cruise when they were in their 20's including Alaska.

Each night there will be various forms of entertainment. There will be a production show, or some other act such as comedian, vocalists, dancers, etc. In addition on some nights there will also be an additional show of some sort such as the band performing with other entertainers. Other options include the lounges where there is live entertainment as well as one venue with dancing. Each night there is also two showings of the same movie which would be one that is often in the movie theater the prior year and there is also the Casino. So a good deal of options. There will likely be others of their age group(s) on board for an Alaska sailing so a good opportunity for them to be with other people they meet.

The place they might like the best is the disco. Its name escapes me. It often is sparsely attended, but your six would do a nice job of helping populate the place.
