New UPDATED Current list of Cruise Directors (CD)

Recommended Posts

Time for my list:

Joff Eaton - Sailed with him 4 times!!! Very entertaining, personable, visible around the ship and did a good morning show with each of the 3 AD's he was with. Only criticism was that the jokes were repeated cruise to cruise. Hope to sail him again, wish they would drag him off Indy and have him rotate with Abe on Harmony!!

John Blair - Worst CD I have sailed with. Had him twice, the morning show was not very entertaining, self absorbed; loud and frequent PA announcements; treats the people in theatre like they are HIS audience, not guests on the ship, not particularly visible around larger ships, cannot manage entertainment on larger ship (On Anthem, some activities were cancelled at his discretion, and L&M at 10.30 on last evening, and not a huge amount of activities. Had I known he would be on, I would not have done Anthem last year. Will intentionally avoid him in the future.

Leigh Xuereb - Sad that Leigh has left. He and Frankie did a great morning show and I found Leigh to be very funny. Wish he was still with Royal, would have been a good fit for Anthem.

Casey Pelter - Had a good and dry sense of humour, friendly the time we passed him, and fairly low-key, but not present at many activities, and dull morning show, not a lot of energy. His AD Carlos (CD on Empress) was much more present around the ship. I think he was mismatched with this ship with it being a Med cruise. Would be OK with sailing with him again, but on a larger Caribbean ship.

Jimmy Rhodes - I liked Jimmy, didn't see him much, but seemed friendly enough, and did a good morning show, and seemed relatively entertaining. Did talk too fast though. Would welcome another sailing with him.

Jerome Sueur - As with Jimmy. Reasonably entertaining, quite low-key, friendly enough. Would also welcome another sailing with him again, but on a smaller ship to really see how he is.

Bobby Brown - Not a huge fan. Seemed very a friendly guy, but no energy at all. Was personable, but as a CD, he just didn't really do it for me, no energy, humour, just rather boring. Would not be thrilled to have him again, although to be fair to him, it was the last sailing of his contract.

I've had John Blair years ago on Enchantment and had Bobby on Allure this past March, they are on my worst CD list, Ken Rush kinda too . I don't like to be negative about people, but I compare every CD to Allan Brooks and Richard Spacey they are the best!!

Thanks for your feedback.

Everyone else - Chime in and give your feedback on the various CD's that you have sailed with over your time. Excited to hear your feedback! :D

I wish I could remember who the CD was for my very first cruise on Voyager in 06 out of Miami. I just have one memory of him looking down his nose at me and sneering during the love and marriage show.

Next came Ricky Williams. We had him 3 times, all on Majesty. I enjoyed him very much the first time and I think he ran the best Quest I have ever been to - That may be slanted because I love Quest on the small ships rather than the Ice rink studio on the Voyager and Freedom class ships. My only complaint about Ricky was his act was the same time, but I am thinking doing the same itineraries with new passengers every 3 or 4 days was tough. I would welcome seeing him back on another ship.

I next remember Ken Rush having him twice on Allure. He maybe the most polarizing figure of all the CDs. I thought he did his job really well, his morning show was full of useful information and you would tell he updated it when needed for special circumstances. As an MC he also gave great information and ran one of the most fun Quests I've seen on the big ships. Most people that don't like him have had bad 1 on 1 interactions with him. I never had one.

Dennis Charles came along next and I thought he did a good job, the first time we were selected as a couple for Love and Marriage we had a great time. I remember his quest being fun and I also remember a guy who resembled Jabba the hut in every way, sat up front with about $5000 in camera equipment and Dennis made him put it away. That made the event more fun.

The only bad CD I ever had IMO was Carly (Siomone?) We had her on Jewel and I think she wasn't feeling well this week. This was the only time I've seen Love and Marriage held between the first and 2nd dinner seating making it PG rated and very short. (Worst one ever) Her Quest was totally G rated and hyper boring. I did get invited to my first bow sailaway party with her and found her to be charming in person in a rate 1 on1 for me.

I had Casey Pelter on Freedom and liked him a lot. It took a day or two as I thought his morning show had no useful information till I realized he had his staff present that stuff while he did other fun stuff. Also spoke with him briefly and found him enjoyable to talk to. I am looking forward to seeing him again in 10 days!

We had Drew Devine on Oasis and I think he is one of my favorites. Great Morning show, but my appreciation of that may be slanted because he had Margo as his AD on the show. He had a couple of twist to his Quest that made it fun and he also did a good Love and Marriage.

We took an unplanned cruise on Majesty and had Mark Walker last fall. I can see why everyone likes him, but I could tell that our cruise was his last before the winter break and he did phone it in just a bit. I would welcome having him again.

Here is my take on the CD's I've sailed with, from least to most favorite :)

John Blair -- My least favorite cruise director ever. He seems like a nice guy, but he also seems like a failed lounge singer. He never met a mirror that he didn't like. The worst Quest and Love and Marriage ever. Seriously, he badgered the senior husband into changing his answer and then marked him wrong when his wife gave the original answer. His Quest... everyone won! I'm sorry, I know that it's just a game and the prizes are minimal, but I like to feel like I accomplished something and when everyone is a winner then no one is a winner. I never saw him around the ship and when I did see him he wasn't that approachable.

Mike Hunnerup -- My second least favorite. He wasn't very present around the ship and when you did see him he wasn't approachable. I also feel like he imparted a general bad attitude in his CD staff. There wasn't a lot going on in terms of activities and the one that they did do were poorly run. The sad thing is that even after he left that ship his influence still lingered. My last time on Liberty when he was CD I remember looking at Jewel of the Seas while docked in Cozumel and wishing I was on that ship instead.

Casey Pelter -- My first CD ever. He seemed nice, just nothing special. At this point I didn't have any expectations for CD's but in hindsight I find him to be a bit lacking. He was another one that I rarely saw out and about on the ship unless he was hosting something.

Steve Davis -- Middle of the road. He wasn't horrible but he wasn't great either. Average L&M and Quest. However, if you're into the Thriller flash mob his was the best I've ever seen. He was very invested in doing that right.

Amy Fickert -- Somewhat visible but very friendly when there. Middle of the road.

Carly Boileau -- She was the CD on the Jewel the first time I went on her. This was right after my Liberty cruise with Mike H that I was so bored on. She's better than Mike H but still middle of the road. She was very present on board and very friendly, but maybe not up to the task of wrangling the spring break crowds on board.

Bill Brunkhorst -- My niece's favorite CD. He ran a very good Quest and managed to incorporate my niece into the game without embarrassing her. She still talks about it. The first of the CD's that I really liked. :)

Drew Devine -- I had him many times on the short runs out of Port Canaveral on Monarch as well as on Oasis. Great morning shows, very visible on the ship, very friendly, L&M and Quest were always fun with him hosting. He's got a very good memory for past cruisers. Also, he's Canadian so he can't help but be nice and polite. :p

Richard Spacey -- It's too bad that he's now with Celebrity. He was top notch and so much fun.

Graham Seymour -- Again, one of the best I've ever sailed with. Very visible, very friendly, great L&M and Quest, he did a British Invasion night and 80's night instead of the tired 70's night. I'd really like to sail with him again before he semi-retires.

Abe Hughes -- One of my wife's favorites. He has so much energy and is just so infectious with it. How he manages to keep things going so well on the Harmony is beyond me. We saw him so much around the ship that he must have thought we were stalking him. He always had a wave and a smile though and his shows and activities were so good.

And last but not least...

Marc Walker -- The other one of my wife's favorites. Part of that is because I'm a 'chubby bunny' champion :D. But, again, he's very visible, very friendly and is a great host for the various activities around the ship. It'll be sad to see him leave for Independence.

There have been other CD's but I can't think of their names right now so I guess they just weren't that memorable. :p

Mitch has said that he is joining the ship today. He hasn't been CD on an Oasis Class before (was takeout AM for Oasis in 09, I think), so may be on a week's handover. Or, it could be an error in the Compass, which may occur when two CD's handover.

I'm assuming Allure is sailing away soon, what did the person conducting the Muster Drill sound like?

Ok-mystery solved:

Bobby Brown is the CD on the Allire this week with Mitch Merucci observing. Then next week Mitch will merge in and Bobby will phase out but be "with" Mitch in case he has any issues. This is straight from the horse's mouth- I spoke to BOTH Bobby and Mitch together in the schooner bar on day 2 (didn't get internet till today so I was unable to post before then). Cruise Compass lists Bobby as the CD but this will change. Yes, BOTH Mitch and Bobby are on the Allure this week.

I would bet that it's Dennis. He's been doing the regular 4 month contracts on Jewel for a while now (since Carly was reassigned), and before that, he did the 2 month fill-ins.

But, since CDs only do 3 years on a ship, Dennis is probably very close to maxing out his allowable time there, and I wouldn't be surprised if he is reassigned soon.

Time will tell.....

Where is Joff going after Indie?

Back to OV for the Australian winter. Don't have any dates, or knowledge of how it fits into the OV schedule, so have withheld from putting it on the list.

Dennis has been exclusively on Jewel since her Tampa days (2012-13). There was talk of him moving to Oasis and also to Quantum, but neither happened. He should be moving soon.
