Great Stirrup Cay Swimming

Recommended Posts

Maybe it seems like a silly question to ask how the swimming is at a private Caribbean island, but frankly, I was very disappointed with CoCo Cay, which was incredibly grassy and reedy in the water, and Labadee, which I found very rocky. Half Moon Cay, on the other hand, is the most beautiful beach I've ever been on, with clear white sand all the way into the water; no rocks, no reeds, just crystal clear azure seas.

So here's my question -- how is the swimming at GSC? Will we need sand shoes? Are there some areas that are better than others? I'm also happy just to spend the day in a lounge chair sitting in the sun, but would just like to know what to expect in terms of whether we'll actually be able to spend time in the water.

Seaweed can happen on any beach....it's a function of tides! We've never had vegetation in the water at Coco Cay....must have just had a bad seaweed season!

Nope, this wasn't stuff flowing in on the tide -- it was rooted and growing. But to each his own; I know for many people CoCo Cay is their favorite private island.

We missed great stirrup cay 3 out of 3 times, I would have taken thousands of jellyfish in the water to see the island.
