onlineangel Posted July 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2017 Just a couple Sun questions... What would be considered the "main bar" on the ship for purposes of trying to coordinate meeting up with people? Some of our friends will be on the same sailing as us but I doubt we will be boarding together. I'd like to suggest some place for us to meet at a set time. From the photos and reading I've done, I would guess Topsiders? Also, are there servers in the casino or do you need to go up to the bar for drinks? Thanks! garycarla Posted July 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2017 There are servers in the casino. A little tip will encourage them to return sooner. Main bar - I would suggest not using any term like that as different folks will use different bars. I guess it depends when you are meeting up. If during the boarding process and nice outside, then an outside bar. Otherwise somewhere inside? Lots of bars : https://www.ncl.com/cruise-ship/sun#whats-on-board

Good to know there are servers in the casino and, ya, I'm a tipping person. I was kinda hoping there would be what would be considered a "main bar" as far as the largest, where most people go, easiest to find/get to, etc but I get what you are saying. This would be sometime during the boarding process though no clue yet as to what time. I was planning to meet outside but didn't even think about the weather. If it's cold and raining I don't think any of us will be wanting to wait for anyone outside. I'll think of something! I've got a couple months yet. Planmaam Posted July 20, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 20, 2017 The Observation Lounge at the front of the ship would be a great place for meeting up, no matter the weather. It's large, and has doors that open up onto a deck at the front of the ship which is great for sail-away. The pool deck and Topsiders is another great place during good weather. They usually have a BBQ going on there, live music, and waiters circulating with the drink of the day for purchase. Where are you going and from which port do you depart? Planmaam Posted July 20, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 20, 2017 Then the Observation Lounge in the front of the ship would be perfect! The floor-to-ceiling windows out the sides and front of the ship are perfect. Then there are the doors out to the front deck. We did this on a cruise out of Tampa when we went under that famous bridge (don't remember the name). AWESOME!

don't-use-real-name Posted July 21, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 21, 2017 Browse this LINK for an overview of the bars on board the NCL SUN: http://www.beyondships.com/NCLSun-Tour-4.html By in large the Observation Lounge is perhaps the largest for a group gathering. Next best would be Topsiders. Not all the bars are open - the Sports Bar port side deck 11 aft would be as close to a 24/7 bar - project for the UBP folks to find out what watering hole is open to quench the thirst - all restaurants when open will have a beverage waiter but best to BYOB drinks in the mean time while waiting for a refill. Small ship but anticipate lines - suggest that you patronize the bar that meets your needs frequently and a tip to the bartender speeds thing along with refills - you become that known customer with an affinity for that special drink ! With the exception of the Observation Lounge & Bar most all the activities are in the aft end of the ship. The NCL SUN is some 850 feet long and that is a long long way to Tipperary to carry a drink to the other end - heck you may have to make a port stop on the way. There are 8 bars on the SUN. Rare Clay Clayton Posted July 21, 2017 #9 Share Posted July 21, 2017 While I can't disagree with any of the PPs, I have to throw in The Great Outdoors as our preferred space to meet up at Sailaway. After traveling inside planes trains and automobiles, I want to be outside when I am on vacation! The bar is "right there" as is the buffet in case someone is feeling peckish. And while you didn't ask, our usual meeting place pre excursions is the Champagne Bar. It isn't open in the mornings so it is empty, there is a house phone on the wall next to the window to use to call the tardy ones and it is one floor up from the guest services so lots of good people watching while waiting. NMLady Posted July 21, 2017 #10 Share Posted July 21, 2017 I agree, the observation lounge would be a great place. Yes, but if the OP wants a bar the one in Observation Lounge isn't usually open during sailaway.
debnjoe1438 Posted July 21, 2017 #11 Share Posted July 21, 2017 I have to brag...I used Priceline to book my pre-cruise hotel in San Francisco. The rates are crazy! Today I found a Union Station hotel, 3 1/2 stars, for $59.00 a night! Yay!! Great, congrats Yes, but if the OP wants a bar the one in Observation Lounge isn't usually open during sailaway. NJLVW Posted July 22, 2017 #12 Share Posted July 22, 2017 Champs Bar on deck 12 Sports deck. Right above pool deck so you can watch sailaway. It is outside. Great for a meeting place and sailaway. If it is to cold or rainy you can go indoors from there. 1 deck down to 11 and go to the Sports Bar. This is on the pool deck. Many options. Check out the NCL deck plans. It will show you where all your options are located. Have fun!

onlineangel Posted July 23, 2017 Author #14 Share Posted July 23, 2017 Thanks, all, for the ideas/suggestions. I appreciate it. I think I've got enough information and I will discuss with my friends and come up with a plan together. I've been researching this cruise (ship and ports) for the last 9 months so I know where all the bars are and such but because I have never been on the Sun (and haven't even been on a cruise in 14 years), I wasn't sure which ones would be open right away, which are easier to get to, better to "lounge" in waiting for others, etc. Again, thanks!
