rvorcruise Posted August 22, 2017 #26 Share Posted August 22, 2017 rvorcruiseYour photo of the lights is spectacular but were you able to see such colors with the naked eye? The one time we saw the northern lights (off the coast of Iceland in September at 2:00 a.m.) it seemed to me that they were just a blurry white cloud and the colors only showed up later in photographs of the event. Cameras always see the colours better, even with no manipulation. There was colour, but not this bright.
rvorcruise Posted August 22, 2017 #27 Share Posted August 22, 2017 OMG That's to die for! Fantastic photo. Does it ever happen in late June or early July? We have a cruisetour scheduled for June 23 starting in Fairbanks and ending in Vancouver July 6, 2018. No, you have no chance of seeing them between very early May April and early August. rvorcruise Posted August 23, 2017 #34 Share Posted August 23, 2017 They said 11pm. It can be anytime it's dark, though. Sometimes they last all night, sometimes only for a minute. Sometimes they cover most of the sky, sometimes you just get a little band and have to be looking in the right direction. Dedication and luck both count! Sea Hag Posted August 26, 2017 #37 Share Posted August 26, 2017 The time we saw them from a ship, they told us to leave the Princess channel on when we went to bed. They announced loudly over that, and it worked fine.

merlot1024 Posted September 10, 2017 #39 Share Posted September 10, 2017 Just off the Star Princess this morning. We saw them on our way from Ketchikan to Vancouver. Our awesome Captain made the announcement to all staterooms and woke us up :). It was fantastic. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
donaldsc Posted September 10, 2017 #40 Share Posted September 10, 2017 We thought a system where one person rouses the next cabin number in the chain so only one or 2 people need notifying by the bridge/guest services but the message spreads fast. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Forums mobile app And if one person does not do their calling, all the rest of the chain is broken. With the computerized phone systems out today, I am sure that the ship personnel could all the interested people with one phone call - if they really wanted to. Aye - that's the rub - if they wanted to. DON
