Rare lucywestie Posted August 28, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2017 So I have never had a drinks package before. Both my wife and I have it on our upcoming cruise. How does it work for getting drinks. Do we both have to go to the bar with our passes or can one of us go with both passes, or, can one of us go just with their own pass but the system will show that both of us in the same cabin have the package? Two Wheels Only Posted August 28, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2017 One person takes both cards. Once the bartenders get to know you and know that both have the UBP, one card will do.
Rare BirdTravels Posted August 28, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2017 They will let you pick up 2 drinks with your card
AzStyle Posted August 28, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 28, 2017 It just depends on the server, I have gone up and got as many as 4 at a time on my card alone and other times if over 2 drinks they ask for another persons key card. They make it very convenient. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
poohdreaming Posted August 28, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 28, 2017 It depends on the bartender / the bar where you go to pick up the drink. If you like one bar location and kept going back until they know you, it should be fine with one card and getting more than 1 drink.
casofilia Posted August 28, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 28, 2017 There is no need to buy drinks when you have the UBP unless you only drink from the "Top Shelf".

It seems to depend on the ship and the bar. We have found on our last couple of cruises they really don't care. I think when they check the computer it shows you both have the package. There was a time when they wanted to see both guests, then they wanted to see both cards. On the Breakaway and the Epic they were more lax. Visigoth Posted August 28, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 28, 2017 We have had the UBP for each of our last 4 sailings. The procedure has become more relaxed with each voyage. At first they required everyone's sail pass and they had you sign a $-0- receipt for each drink. More recently they may require only one card for several guests as long as they know all guests being served have a UDP. No receipt is offered unless the drink exceeds the $15 maximum. Even with more expensive drinks, sometimes they will eschew the receipt and serve it as part of the UDP package. They appear to be trying to make it as simple and painless as possible. Kudos to NCL,

garycarla Posted September 2, 2017 #11 Share Posted September 2, 2017 Did you read the posts or just the subject heading? Not one post uses the word "buy". Actually, the title used the word "buying" drinks. One would GUESS they meant "getting" drinks. Only a guess. Maybe they were asking about "buying" top shelf above the $15 level. How would anyone here KNOW what they meant?

The ubp will show on you room key card. You can go together to get a drink or separate. Just make sure the drink is under $15 or the difference will be charged to your onboard account and the gratuity will be added to the transaction. Actually, the title used the word "buying" drinks. padams2017 Posted September 20, 2017 #13 Share Posted September 20, 2017 I was solo on my last cruise (Dawn, 9/8/17) and I had no problem getting two drinks at a time for myself with one card. It saved me from having to put my book down and come in from the Deck 7 lounge chairs every 20 minutes. Sometimes at dinner I would try two different drinks (drink and a sidecar) and they brought me both.

They were all over the place.
Steve007NY Posted September 20, 2017 #15 Share Posted September 20, 2017 Probably 30 drinks (including Wine with dinners) on our current cruise on the escape. We were probably asked for the second card two or three times total, mostly on the first day.

stbraley Posted September 20, 2017 #17 Share Posted September 20, 2017 Also, something that surprised us with the UBP. If you get on the ship early and order a drink with the UBP. You will be charged the tax of the drink onto your account until the ship gets a few mikes from port. I believe it also happens elsewhere in the world, notably Europe. Another Mike!!.

casofilia Posted September 22, 2017 #21 Share Posted September 22, 2017 If you have the UBP you will have paid 18% extra to cover the normal tips. You DON'T have to tip further unless you really want to.

You DON'T have to tip further unless you really want to. I understand we already paid the 18% but I was wondering if after ordering a beverage are you given a receipt to sign? Many times we make friends with the casino bartenders and like to tip extra. Just wondering so I can be prepared to bring extra cash for tips if needed. TIA Past three cruises no signatures required anywhere. Drinks with little or no effort to make i.e. Crown Royal & Club soda left no tip unless ordering 2 or more for the cabin. Drinks that take some time to blend concoct shake stir foment and entertain while making with a flourish - yes - tips - class act. Still yet without paper receipts and signatures - your cabin Key card has to be swiped as a method of inventory control accountability and marketing (what the cruise customer is trending in beverages).
