millennium sewage problems

We are booked for a cruise on the Millennium departing March 19, 2006 and are concerned about the sewage smell problems that have been reported on Cruise Critic threads by passengers that have sailed on her recently. Consequently, I have talked to our travel agent, she reports that personel from her office, that were onboard ship very recently, also noted sewage smell in certain parts of the ship. She has contacted Celebrity to find out what is being done about this problem, to date we have no response from Celebrity

Dear Wolfganz,

Please let us know what your TA finds out from Celebrity. I am curious as well as to what Celebrity is doing to fix this problem. We experienced the sewage smell on the Infinity this summer to Alaska. Although, it sounds like the recent situation on the Millennium may have been worse than our experience on Infinity.

I am hopeful that Celebrity will make this a top priority and address the situation on all ships that have experienced this problem.

We love Celebrity and would hate to see this highly unpleasant problem continue.

Please keep us updated.

Nancy

P.S. We are booked on the Millennium next June Barcelona to Venice

I would immediately find a new travel agent. I too was booked on the Millennium for 19 March 2006 but was rebooked on another ship because the Millie will be in dry dock for a major overhaul. As far as the smell of sewage - I was on the ship last March and didn't notice any problems. That is not to say that it doesn't occassionally happen - plumbing problems are common on ships. It's part of sailing whether on a cruise ship or a sailboat. And come to think of it occassionally our own houses.

Dear Katiebeth,

Having experienced these odors, I'd love to see the problem solved.

May I ask, are these odors particular to any part of the ship? I saw a post that tbelian made about a man who was put on a CCL ship near the laundry and it was awful. I'm not sure how any of us could find out from ship's deckplans where the laundry is in order to avoid it, though, outside of the information traded on these posts.

While I certainly am not challenging what you've been told, it is interesting to note that X is still listing this sailing on its website.

On Mercury last month, it was one evening and was pervasive throughout the ship. Luckily it only lasted a couple of hours. It was very strong. On the other cruises it was while walking in hallways and was intermittent. I honestly can't remember exactly the location but it seems as if it was fairly near the center of the ship.

I am positve about this sailing being canceled. If you go to the website and look for availability this message will appear "There were no sailings found that match the search criteria you selected. However, we found 3 result(s) for cruise(s) by eliminating Date Month." I just cut and pasted this in. Celebrity is offering the Century doing the Western Caribbean instead. I was called by the "redepoyment" department in September regarding the change. They upgraded us from a cc to a sky suite and added a $300 ship board credit in addition to the $100 credit we had for booking on board last March. I had a great aft cabin booked on the Millie and was very disappointed with the change.

Sorry, I was wrong - but don't let my husband know that I admitted it. The Millie was scheduled out of Fort Lauderdale, they swapped out Millie for the Infinity and the Infinity is now in dry dock for those dates. The Millie is out there someplace but not on it's scheduled itinerary for a 7 day eastern Caribbean cruise - which is still listed on a few cruise reservation sites.

Ocean Sailor -

The Millenium just got out of drydock and is scheduled to be doing South America itineraries in the spring I believe. Infinity is due for a spring drydock. Celebrity swapped the schedules for the two ships starting in late December. This may be causing some confusion. Millenium would originally have been doing Western and Eastern caribbean cruises.

Unless Celebrity added a spring drydock to the schedule in the last week for Millenium I'm pretty sure that what you are seeing is Infinity. In some of the information the ship names aren't switched.

That's so weird. I just looked it up again and it's still listed. So strange that we're getting different results. I see a cruise that is two weeks, leaving from Chile and ending in Fort Lauderdale.

Heck, I'm on Celebrity's web site right now and it's about to let me make a reservation...I've clicked all the way through to the point where I can pick my cabin. I can get a Sky Suite for $6100 per person, plus air. Doesn't seem cancelled to me, based on this.

I mean, if they've cancelled it, they really shouldn't be letting people book it now should they?

So glad to be cruising with the two of you!:D

Re: smell, we had it on Infinity this September. I'd read about it on here, and so was curious, and, admittedly, a little too sensitive to any odor. First day out, there was no problem. Second day, I noticed it on Deck six aft, but just forward of the aft staircase. I had some other issues to work out with the guest relations people (they took care of everything right away:) ), so I mentioned the smell, and that I'd heard it was a problem on previous cruises.

Within an hour, the chief housekeeper was following up with me, and the odor was gone. The only descernable difference I could see was that some of the doors to crew areas were now firmly shut. (Made me feel as though I'd condemned the crew to inhale noxious fumes. ) Just a theory about my experience- might not explain, but I was relieved not to have the smell every time I walked down the hall.

On our Alaska cruise in September, Bob and I were walking down deck 8 from the aft to the bow and we encountered the "odor." It was quite bad for about 10 cabins. It was mid-ship where we smelled it, and quite overpowering. I remember thinking to myself that I would be unable to stay in my cabin with that odor. I do hope they find the remedy for it. I can imagine it would ruin a cruise if someone had to be around it long, and I can't imagine having a cabin and having to endure it for an entire cruise.

I was just on the Millennium for a 2-night cruise. We did not notice any sewage smell anywhere. Our cabin was on the Panorama deck. However, there were problems for a few hours with the toilets not flushing. I've experienced sewage smells in the past on other ships (not just Celebrity's) and toilets not flushing from time to time. These are the types of things that can happen on any cruise ship - and in hotels.

Just off Millennium and did not encounter any odors. These posts appear regularly throughout cruise critic re various lines and their ships. I am sure that the people posting have in fact smelled something but I have never experienced the discomfort being described.
