We'l be on the Regal Princess in January and I know there are always things on each ship that you wish you would have known about earlier in the cruise. Any of the previous Regal cruisers have any tips they would like to share? Quiet getaway spots, not to miss food or drinks, things we should do as soon as we board....

Try to have lunch on embarkation at Alfredo’s full menu pizza lunch at deck 6. Visit the expanded buffet area for other food options later.

If planning on going to Theater shows go at least 30 minutes early if not 45. Not as many seats as on other ships and they fill up fast.

The main theater, which is surprisingly small for a ship this size fills quickly. So get there early. The buffet is excellent overall, but if you wish a bit more of a lite bite, there's the international café off the Piazza. Alfredo's is fairly decent, still don't know why everyone thinks it's so great. The pizza was just ok. If you like to people watch, grab a seat at Crooners bar & watch the parade.

Tour the ship, you will see all the spots. Don't forget to look at the four patios on the promenade deck.

These are the no charge dining locations, Alfredo's, International Cafe, Buffet, Trident Grill, Prego Pizza, Room Service, DR's, Pub Lunch on some sea days. One DR is open for lunch from noon to 1:30 on boarding day. Alfredo's is a sit down waiter served restaurant serving pizza and other items. Like omelettes? The made to order omelette station is in the most aft island in the Horizon Ct. buffet. Become familiar with all the offerings at the buffet it is very large. The Horizon Terrace is a nice outdoor location to have lunch or breakfast.

If you enjoy espresso drinks look into the coffee card.

Read the Princess Patter which will be in your cabin. The back page has all the hours of the restaurants and bars.

I understand if you want to use and reserve The Sanctuary facilities, you need to do that immediately upon arrival , even before going to your cabin or eating

Also if you go to the Wheelhouse bar try to get Christina as your waitress. She has a great personality and does a great job serving drinks.

Definitely try Alfredos - I actually prefer the thin crust pizza up top but Alfredos has some other nice offerings. If you want to get up to the Sanctuary or Retreat pool in a hurry buzz past the Lotus spa on 5 and take the elevators straight up to 17 (pretty sure it's 17).

If you are a wine drinker, you may want to bring your own bottles onboard with you.

 

We brought on a case when we boarded the Regal a couple weeks ago. When we were checking in many people didn't realize you could do this. I met many friends in line:)

 

First 2 bottles n/c every subsequent bottle $15.00 corkage.

 

Also, if you enjoy a good cigar Churchill's is a good spot. They even have a humidor with cigars for sale.

Not crowded at all because of all the smokers. It's a great place to catch emphysema, but to swim, not so much.

Well, it is a plunge pool so that pretty much rules out the swimming. But because of the smokers, it’s the friendliest spot on the ship!

Love Alfredo's pizza and often go there on embarkation day. Recently on the Regal we were sorry we hadn't gone to the buffet. After we ate we checked out the food up there and it was fabulous. Also the calzone at Alfredo's on the Regal was a horrible blob of inedible pizza base.

The Hot Dogs on the Lido Deck are some of the best I have ever eaten. The Pulled Pork BBQ I got one night there as a late night snack was delicious. I don't usually go to the grill on board, but had a hot dog one day and was hooked. Even got DW hooked as well. The buns tasted like they were made on the ship that morning, and probably were.

Yeah. There were a lot of smokers in that area. I guess you do have to accommodate them some what. Didn't the like smoking in the casino. I haven't seen that in years. It pretty much kept me out of there & probably saved me some money! I imagine the smoking has been banned there since our 2017 cruise on the Regal.

You'll never see that happen altogether on Princess. Stopping people from gambling is the last thing they want to do. ;)

Even if it's only a smaller percentage of the cruisers polluting the air.

i was just on last week and loved alfredos as soon as we boarded. great way to fill up before exploring. there are some seats outside princess live to hang out during stormy days.

 

club 6 may or may not be open for seating during the day. one time i found it empty. another time it said reserved for elites. it was annoying to come down the elevator to 6 and have to go thru the club or casino.

 

deck 18 and 19 may provide some secrecy for you. if you like steps . its worth going up on day 1 to check them out. didnt spend anytime in the retreat as the one day i went up it was much windier than deck 16.

 

i'm unsure about the vista lounge. only time i ran into it there was an art thing going on. sad to say i totally forgot to check that location the rest of the trip but looked like comfy seats.

Three cruises and 30 nights on Regal in the last 1-1/2 years and on all of them, good seats went begging in the late shows. I do understand early shows can be packed but on last month's TA, the 10:00 shows always had good seats available (center seats close to the stage could usually be found as late as 10 to 15 minutes before the show; good (as in just a few seats off the center aisles) seats on the side close to the stage were available right up to show time (and beyond) - typically we saw staff and officers with public area privileges sitting down in that area just before show time).

forgot to mention theater. for the comedian we were 30 min early. all the aisle seats in back taken..sigh. had to go down midway to get an 'outter' aisle seat. if you like to be front/center tons of those available at that time. those people dont mind waiting to exit the theater :)

 

also while these seats were 100x better than the Breakaways, they still dont make them comfy for fat people. you better like your neighbor.

• As already mentioned, Alfredo's for embarkation (or really any time).
  
• Winemaker's Table - even if you aren't a big wine drinker the food alone is worth the $40 charge. Call the dine line once you get to your room.
  
• We tend to prefer MDR for most meals and don't go to buffets much for various reasons, but we were disappointed with MDR for lunch and even breakfast wasn't that great. International Cafe (IC) looked like it had several interesting lunch options, but we were on a short cruise and never made it.
  
• Pub lunch was nice, but the scotch egg was huge and the sausage looked under-cooked.
  
• We never had to sign for drinks, so if you like to tip your server beyond the auto-added gratuity you should carry cash.
  
• We didn't try it, but I saw a thread recently about the $10 high tea that looked very nice.
  
• In addition to no full promenade, you also cannot reach the aft of the ship from every deck (if you end up with the aft dining room).
  
• 6:00 and 8:00 traditional dining times (for us) were 5:30 and 7:45. We would either opt for late dining, or more likely any-time in the future.
