San Francisco: Transportation from pier to airport

Recommended Posts

What's the best option for getting to the airport in a timely manner? Are taxis readily available, and if so, approximately how much would one cost? And what about Princess transfers? Are they just one departure time for everyone or are there staggered departures? Are there any other options, such as independent transport companies that might be waiting outside the terminal?

This is the first time I'll be returning from somewhere other than Port Everglades, which is very easy!

In order of least expensive to most expensive:

BART: $5

Uber/Lyft: $25 + tip

Taxi: $60 + tip

Can’t say about Princess Airport transfers. Never use it.

Enjoy your cruise.

If you want a car waiting for you then none of the above.

I would go with something like Execucar at http://www.execucar.com

Otherwise you could try Uber or a Taxi. If you have a tight flight go with a service like Execucar.

We booked execucar for SFO to our hotel and from the pier to SFO. $58.50 each way and we have it all to ourselves so no stopping along the way for others. Premium sedan, curbside pickup and holds up to 3 passengers.

Princess has staggered departure times for the airport transfers based on flight time.

There are plenty of taxi’s immediately available.

Uber and Lyft will be less expensive, but you’ll wait a few minutes.

We have never done a car service...where would you meet them at the dock? We have either had a princess transfer as part of the pkg or close enough just got a taxi or hotel shuttle. Do they have a sign with your name?

Hmmm...when I recently sought an estimate from Uber for SFO to the pier, it started at $37 for UberX, to as high as $61, considering UberXL for a good amount of luggage.

SuperShuttle was $17pp.

Princess Transfers usually have several departure times based on your flight time.

We used Princess transfer on our last SFO cruise and it worked very well. We were met at baggage claim by young woman with luggage cart and a list of names (just us and another couple), escorted to bus which made another stop to pick up and dropped off at pier. Would definitely do it again. For us, the less luggage handling and walking the better.

Can I ask what time your plane landed and what time you were able to get to the pier? If early were you able to drop big bags with the porters that early?

How far from port is the BART station?

Does it have elevator to make it easy to bring luggage onto train?

The BART station is about 1.2 miles. Flat walk once you are you are out of the BART system. Can't answer your question about elevators, (pretty sure they do) but they do have an escalator.

By the way, there is tons more info on the West Coast Departures board on transport methods in SF.

It’s an easy 20 minute walk on the Embarcadero (waterfront) from the San Francisco Cruise Port in the direction of Ferry Plaza. Then walk one block from Ferry Paza to Market Street and the BART station, There is signage above the BART station, that says BART. The BART trsin to the Airport runs about every 15 minutes. Take the elevator down to the BART station. Early in the morning, you should not have any problem getting a seat on BART as most commuters will get off in one to three San Francisco stops.

Purchase a one way BART ticken from the ticket kiosk inside station.

Take the BART train to Airport (SFO). There is signage on the front of BART trains and in the station. Make sure you take the BART train going to Airport. BART takes you directly to the airport terminal. Get off, and you’re there. :) It’s about a 30 minute ride once you board the BART train to Airport on Market Street and arrive at the Airport SFO terminal.

Enjoy your cruise.

Thanks for info. Would love to take the train but seems like way too far a walk with our luggage.

We have directions to call the driver when we get off the Grand and I believe we will get picked up the same location as where the cabs are lined up. We haven't done this in SF before but we have to and from San Pedro and it worked out well. Called the driver and he told us where to meet the sedan.

An easy 20 minute walk with one or two pieces of luggage (25”roller bag' date=' and one backpack style 22” carry on bag) per person is not difficult, or too far, to or from the Embarcadero BART station, for [i']us[/i]. :) We do that every time we sail from the San Francisco Cruise Port.

But, for many elderly or less fit PAXs, or those with mobility/health issues, or PAXs with too much luggage, then yes, a 20 minute walk could be difficult, especially if not use to walking. YMMV.

But on a sunny day, it’s a nice scenic stroll along the Embarcadero (waterfront), to or from the San Francisco Cruise Port. :)

Enjoy your cruise.

Will consider it. Easy walk for me not so easy for DW.

Thanks for the info!

I have a question about Super Shuttle -- Would I still be charged just $17 even if I happened to be the only person who reserved? Also, would I call them to pick me up after I cleared customs?

Considering difficulty walking for DW, it may be best to consider other transprtstion options to SFO, instead of waking to and taking BART, Because you and DW would need to carry (roll) your luggage on, and off the BART train. May not be so easy for you and DW.

IMO, these might be better especially if DW has difficulty walking, and/or with lots of luggage:

Princess Airport bus transfer.

Uber/Lyft

Super Shuttle

Taxi

Car for hire.

Good luck, and enjoy your cruise.

Yes, it is $17 no matter what. It is a shared shuttle, so the shuttle might pick up elsewhere.

You can call them when you are clear and available to be picked up, but it might be a while. Or you can pre-schedule for a safe time. If you have timing issues for a flight- not a lot of spare time- you might want to consider other options

I just got off the phone with Super Shuttle, and apparently they don't service the San Francisco cruise port -- At least not for the shared ride price. Maybe the Princess transfer might be the way to go.

Good to know. Will probably find another couple to share a cab

Execucar (division of super shuttle) dies any "door to door" you specify.

Thanks,

I think I will play this one as it goes. Hard for me as a planner;p, but we have a bunch of OBC this time and I might just use some to purchase a Princess transfer onboard. Haven't used them in a long time.
