This is getting concerning - I would have figured many more responses.. (We don't go out until Mid Jan)

Anyone have experience with DoubleTree, Hampton Inn, or Hyatt City Center post hurricane Maria? I see all these have posted recent photos and status updates on Facebook...

I am going to call la concha today and try and co firm for my November 10 reservation

I reconfirmed my reservation at least four times via phone, email and Facebook. Each time I was assured the reservation would be honored. In fact, I reconfirmed two days before getting the cancellation notice. I would seriously consider making a backup reservation somewhere.

I finally got through on the phone and was told they are cancelling reservations one at a time if the rooms are needed by fema or government. Yup cancelling that now and I booked Olive Boutique hotel. Super pricey but praying.

Sheraton OSJ yesterday told our TA that they would be honoring existing reservations but taking no new reservations. This is for mid December and third time checking. Not sure how much I trust this....going to be working with Airline to see how flexible they will be for us.

It's not like the ports of call forums are heavily visited. This is a low visitation forum and it's a very specific group of people you're looking for. I wouldn't worry.

Plus many people are still flying in the day of sailing right now.

Link found on my roll call about hotel status I found interesting!

http://puertoriconow.seepuertorico.com/hotels/

Also not accurate :( Our hotel, Hyatt Place has been listed on this page as open from day 1 after Maria. BUT, we received an email from them saying they have cancelled our rooms (we have a group of 8 ppl) and would not be taking reservations until December 1st. So....I got on the live chat feature of that page and informed them that our hotel is closed to tourists. They said they would remove it from the list, but it's still there.

So be cautious about this page.......

I would agree. I think lots of people are silently changing plans to travel from the US the day of departure.

We were booked at the Caribe Hilton for two days ahead of our sailing 11/11/17 on the Celebrity Summit. After numerous calls, we got the news that we would be cancelled. So it made more sense to us to fly into Fort Lauderdale instead. It ended up costing more in airfare (Delta's flight to FLL was $80 each more and we elected to take a Jet Blue flight early Saturday am that we paid for out of pocket).

Since we had a oceanview balcony room at the Caribe Hilton, I had hopes that Hilton would be accommodating and book us in the same level of room at a beachfront hotel in Florida. They gave us 15% off the going rate and we are now in a city view room with no balcony. We are paying the same cost per day as for the oceanfront balcony room in San Juan. 15% off for a "city view"? Big deal. Thanks Hilton. Its not like all your rooms were booked in the slow month of November. Customers tend to remember little things like this.

Anyway, we are good to go. Good luck to all getting to San Juan and good luck to Puerto Rico recovering. If you have not donated to a good charity to help Puerto Rico, please consider doing so.

We stayed in Old San Juan

1. 10/14/17 and 10/15/17 (two nights)

2. Casablanca Hotel.

3. Powered by generator. At the time, I believe anything open in Old San Juan was powered by generator

4. Open nearby: Casablanca Hotel's bar and Cafe, Pirilo Pizza, Caficultura (coffee & breakfast), Starbucks and Walgreens by Sheraton OSJ, and Moreno Spot Bar & Grill

Open walking distance: Barrachina Restaurant, Casa Cortes ChocoBar :D, Senor Paleta, La Madre (Mexican), Nono's bar & restaurant, El Meson Sandwiches, Yeyos, Club Spritz, Cafe Manolin.

There was a great artist co-op store just across the street from Parroquia San Francisco de Asis (church) and under the hotel Da House, at 301 Calle San Francisco. At the time, they were only opened on Sundays.

Closed nearby: Marmalade (although it looked like they were working on it)

5. Hotel lobby had AC, wifi, and ice cold water dispenser. The lobby has a nice bar that opens in the afternoon and night. Our room had: wifi, a cool tablet that was connected to the wifi, one TV with sat, private bath, balcony (not all rooms), running water and fixtures, hot shower. No AC in the room on night 1, but had AC on night 2.

6. We walked by these OSJ hotels that seemed opened, but I didn't ask their front desk: Hotel El Convento and Sheraton Old San Juan. I heard that other pax stayed at La Terraza, but had no AC.

Airport is fine, taxis are easy to get. We didn't feel unsafe at any time. Not all attractions may be open, but there is still plenty to see in this beautiful city!

Thank you for sharing! I was thinking we would just have to stay at our hotel poolside (can you imagine? 😂😜) for 2 days but it looks like we will have plenty to see and do in OSJ!

yes, that is what I was told from Renaissance La Concha San Juan Resort, Shearton Old San Juan and the Water and Beach Club. I had reservations to all three for November 10th and all cancelled or would be cancelled if they need your room for Government and or FEMA employees. I have finally booked with Olive Boutique Hotel and am praying I have a room

Wonder how many rooms each of these offer? Just curious as to what the total number of rooms FEMA might be utilizing. I understand it is combined for relief workers and refugees.

Right now it's just FEMA and other emergency workers. I remember reading somewhere 10,000 federal employees had been deployed in Puerto Rico, that gives some idea.

There may be some Puerto Ricans staying in hotels and staying out of pocket. It's likely that in the next few days that FEMA's TSA (Transitional Shertering Assistance) program will kick in which will pay for hotel for those left homeless...that will likely take up thousands of more rooms.

This update will go a little bit off topic considering the thread is supposed to be about hotels....

Our reservation at the Sheraton Hotel and Casino for Friday night was cancelled by the hotel several weeks ago. We found out by calling direct to the hotel. They mentioned that the hotel was in decent shape and running on generators - but all guest reservations had been cancelled to make room for FEMA and First Responders.

Many of the 'consolidators' that people book through were not informing their end clients because they didn't know. (Air Miles and other rewards programs were unaware until we called them to tell them that the hotel had cancelled our reservation. They had to reach out to their supplier to get the final story.)

....here's where it goes off topic.

At the time there were no hotels taking (or honoring) reservations so we rebooked our air to fly in same day.

....that's another nightmare. Had to rebook our first set of flights to SJU for the new arrival date while airlines rapidly filled up but at least people have been willing to issue credits for cancelled flights.

About 2 weeks ago we had our return tickets with Westjet cancelled with no notice to the end customer - because they've made the decision not to fly to SJU yet......and leave all their customers hanging.....again - we found out before the consolidator. Rebooked immediately on Air Canada at a higher cost but not a lot of options......and then 2 days ago we got wind of the fact that they were also quietly cancelling their flights to/from SJU and rebooking only the customers who had purchased directly off their website. After 2 days of frustrated calls they finally admitted to Huntington that yes they would be cancelling those flights - leaving all of those remaining customers with no flights out of SJU on our disembarkation date or for about 5 days after it.......kinda bringing us full circle.......since there are also no hotels that really seem to be taking and honoring reservations.

......after all of that our large group that would have been stranded in the SJU airport for several days have had to make plans for an early disembarkation in Barbados then hotels and return flights home from there......losing the last day and a half of our cruise.

I get it - these are all first world problems........but the nonsense this group have gone through to try and actually go on this cruise is beyond ridiculous. Though no fault of San Juan's this will be our last cruise using that as a starting point.

Ok so we have one person who stayed at the Comfort Inn with no air conditioning. Anyone else? Seems pretty scary that nobody else is giving us an update.

Who didn't have air at the Comfort Inn? I didn't read that. Someone said not air in room at Casa Blanca. I was told by Comfort Inn when I called for Nov. 2 that they had power, water and were up and running. They said nothing about not having air. The person from Adventure who stayed there reported they had a smooth trip with no problems.
