Interesting Email from Princess about Royal

Just got a booking email from Princess concerning our March, 2018, cruise. In it, it reiterated that there would be no more itinerary changes; we'll be seeing a new production show -

The Secret Silk is a classic Asian folktale featuring mystery, intrigue and life-size puppetry designed by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. More information will be available on princess.com soon.

 

We will also be seeing the following:

Escape into a sophisticated evening of music and glamour, set amid the romantic splendor of a beautiful Montecito garden. Accompanied by an onstage orchestra, Encore celebrates the traditions of pop, opera and musical theater. This spellbinding experience showcasing new songs, elaborate costumes and stunning sets designed by Emmy® award-winner John Iacovelli features musical direction by Academy Awards arranger Nelson Kole.

 

 

But the most interesting note was how they told me that we would not be an ***** cruise anymore...............

We had hoped to have it launched in time for your cruise aboard Royal Princess. Bummer about Ocean Medallion. I haven’t received an email yet but our cruise is in April 2019. But I won’t be surprised if I do get that email since the ***** banner is gone from that sailing. I’ll be disappointed but I guess it’s better than having a non functioning Medallion.

 

The new shows sound cool...especially The Secret Silk.

However, we have identified bugs and oversights that require more testing for us to fully realize our original specifications to elevate the guest experience by way of this new technology. We hope we can fix Ocean Medallion in the future at Princess. We apologize for any disappointment this news may cause for you.

Interesting that you got this email for your four upcoming cruises. I only got it for one. I also have an October, 2019, cruise on the Royal and I did not get any email about that sailing. So maybe ***** up for grabs by that time?

Booked on Caribbean Princess for the March 18, 2018 rollout on that ship. No email and the cruise is still showing the ***** banner on the Princess site. Keeping fingers crossed...

We are booked on the CB in November and have not received any email but then it still is almost a year away. We booked the cruise first because we liked the itinerary (14 day) and because I wanted to see how the ***** was working. It is long enough away that the ***** could be working well but if it is not, we will be happy with the cruise and I will have to book another cruise to check out the *****. What a sacrifice I must make!

Also sailing on Caribbean Princess on 3/18 (hi Thrak)...after reading about all the "challenges" that Princess has encountered so far, I'd be just as happy using a seapass card. Between problems with the technology and bracelets falling off users wrists, it seems like more trouble than it's worth.

Re-reading my comment - meant I have not gotten any email regarding my Royal October, 2018(!) cruise. I guess Princess is leaving the door open in case they get their act together in installing ***** by then!

 

To my knowledge, taking the banner off of the Royal cruises and sending out the emails, I believe all before final payments, is covering Princess from having to give out OBC for Royal customers. If anyone on a Royal cruise gets some OBC, let us know!! I kinda hinted at it but not pressured to see what would happen and just got words of sympathy, so I doubt any OBC is forthcoming.

 

Micha's Grandad is sailing in August of 2018 and got "the" email, but I am in October and did not. Interesting.

I called today after getting an email about our 1/19/18 Royal sailing and they gave us obc. It doesn't hurt to ask.

Rc'd the same email today for our 5/01/18 sailing on the Royal. With all the problems this new technology is having, and the photos of guests wearing what my 7 yr old niece affectionately calls "GPS dog tags for humans" in their formal attire, I have little interest in opting into this program.

Interesting, we have not received any emails regarding our Regal cruise in the beginning of March, and final payment was made last Monday

We are 65 days out and received the email last night. I called Princess to complain and was told because ours was an agent booking, our TA would have to call to negotiate any compensation. A half hour after emailing our TA, She got us $100 OBC each.

 

I questioned if the medallion internet would be available on the cruise as the upgrade would have been done while the ship was in dry dock. The princess agent told me no.

We are on the Royal for 20 days in Feb. and received $200 per person onboard credit.

($100pp per cruise) after a call to Princess. It pays to make that phone call.

We received $100 pp for each leg of our 20 day cruise (2 cruise segments) Feb. 8-28. They were designated as medallion cruises until recently.

Considering final payment is due for this cruise this coming week..I hope they don't wait until end of December to notify us of no ***** on this March 18 Caribbean Princess cruise.

 

After reading what is going on (or not going on) with the roll out of the ***** on the Royal and Regal..just cancel it on the Caribbean now. Hate when companies play games with their customers. Be truthful..bad PR sticks with you for a long time.

 

The cost of this cruise increased when they designated it the first ***** cruise. I'm sure many who stuck with the ship, after being notified it was changing itinerary due to slight engine trouble, will be upset. And I am also sure, many don't care..but it should be your choice before final payment.

Oh that's good to hear! I'm on the 2/8 leg of that cruise! I will definitely make that call. We are in a mini-suite, so hopefully that means $100/pp. Thanks for the info!

Today just got "the email" about no ***** for my Royal cruise of October, 2018!! So they are really backing off the ***** for the Royal aren't they. Am a little more disappointed about this cruise than my March, 2018, cruise as I could understand the delay, but all the way to OCTOBER of next year. Yeah, now I am disappointed.

Our email came after our final payment was made. I told them I was disappointed that we would not experience the advertised ocean medallion cruise, and said this was the reason we picked this cruise. An OBC wasn’t offered but I asked for compensation.

My wife and I just returned from a B2B (14 days) on Regal Princess. We were supposed to get "The Medallion", but got letters before we left that said our stateroom was not located in the Medallion test area. We used the normal card for everything, as usual, but there were people that did have the medallion. I overheard some talking that the medallion would not open their door. The cruise card now has a chip inside of it, so you just need to wave it above a device in the shops to make your purchases. Because of the chip, we were told that they can not punch a hole in the card anymore. Just so you know. The best thing we encountered was the new WiFi. Because we are "Platinum", we had unlimited WiFi access for the full 14 days, at No Charge, and it worked much better than the old system. I was told that a good portion of the corporate IT dept was onboard, trying to work out the bugs, which seem to be many.

My wife and I both received the E-mail from Princess about not having the Medallion up and running for our November 9, 2018 cruise on the Royal. I had to call Princess to arrange for some Princess transfers for our California coastal cruise in March. After taking care of that, I asked about the medallion not being ready for our cruise in November. She got a hold of customer relations and they said the medallion may be in place by then. So extra OBC may be possibility, but Princess won't know till closer to our cruise date.

Thanks for the input. We will be getting off our 14 day cruise from Canada, the day you board!! I thought that was the case because when I talked to corporate today they told me that ***** at that time may become possible but don't want to make any promises until it is much closer to our sailing and to see the status of ***** installations.
